I almost murdered Peshek early in my first playthrough
I’m only halfway through my first playthrough.

I’ve been playing mostly as an honor-bound, aspiring knight. So pretty soon after the prologue, I wanted to pay back my debts to those who helped me survive my escape. I paid the apothecary fella and thought I was good.

Then, a few days later, I get jumped by a few thugs saying I hadn’t paid up. WTF? Whatever, I thought, just some ruffians. I punched them, they punched me, not too big a deal. Then it happens again. I saw them, and get ready to start throwing down. And THEN they charge and all draw weapons. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! I’m standing there, unarmed, and three ax wielding maniacs starting cleaving away. Luckily some guards helped me. I Ok, now it’s no joke. By this time I now realized it was Miller Peshek who was sending them but I didn’t quite understand why. WHat the hell, I paid my debt, who is this gangster Peshek character anyway? The second time the thugs attacked me and were armed, the fight started in the upper keep of Rattay and spilled into the road near the area where you train with Bernard. As I danced around with one of the hitmen, I saw Sir Hanush himself, fat ol’ Hanush, run across the draw bridge and start throwing punches at one of the thugs. He was probably on his way to chapel when he saw the commotion.

Anway, I still didn’t understand why Peshek was trying to shake me down and/or kill me. Well, if this is how it’s gotta be, then i know a way to put a stop to THIS, or so I thought. I mean, Henry is all about honor and such, but the thugs were getting deadly dangerous and preventing Henry from conducting any business at all in Rattay. So, one night I crept into the house and was just about to hack the sleeping Peshek to itty bitty pieces in his own bed and throw them into the stew when Theresa’s peaceful sleeping form struck a tender chord in my heart and I just couldn’t bring myself to kill her father as she slept just downstairs. And so I saved my game as Henry paused, sword drawn, looming over the sleeping Miller. I then turned to the wizard Google, whose explanation saved Peshek’s life.

Henry's been lying and taken care of in Peshek's house for weeks, he deserves some credit even being a gangster. He also offers you a 'job' as you wake up, instead of payment. Did you miss that completely somehow? And he's Theresa's uncle, not father.

Uncle?!? Well ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I should have diced him up then.

I did not do that dirty little job he had. (I’ll get that in my second playthrough as a thief-ish fella).

You can offer to pay Peshek for the bill.

Yeah, Peshek gets mad at you if you say you won't do his job, but he accepts cash if you pay him back that way. Also, if you accept his job you shave to do that fairly quickly, cuz he sends the thugs anyway if you take too long

The apothecary AND Peshek are out some money. So, both want to be paid. And Peshek's a jerk until you help him. So, you might as well, then he'll fence stuff for you that are hard to get rid of like goblets and chalices and stuff. The quests you have to do to get on his good side where he'll buy from you are very easy.

I don't like how the option to not pay the apothecary is the first dialogue option when you talk to him, I accidentally told him I wouldn't pay one time and I felt awful. Had to reload my save, although thankfully it wasn't that much of a time loss

Ain't that something? We suffer no real consequences by telling Konyesh he's not getting paid, but we still feel like IRL crap when we do it.

FWIW, I pay him every time, for the same reason.

Humans, man...

It must be some instinct of ours to want to show gratitude towards our benefactor

Yeah, I always settle up with the apothecary and Peshek. Although, I had forgotten he would send people after you (Peshek) if you didn't pay up or do his missions.
