Can't play dice in "Casting Lots" in a Womans Lot

I can't get Ambrose to play dice with me. I'm at drinking lvl5 only. Either I drink too much and pass out or I work my way through all the dialogue options and he still wont play at the end.

But unfortunately the topic starter only mentions how to win while at low drinking level, never how to get him to play to begin with.
Same as everything else I found when googling the quest. Lots of talk that, if you have a low drinking skill instead of getting him to pass out you can win at dice anyway. But I can't ever get that far. I need to know how to even play him in the first place.

In case nobody can give me an answer to that: Would this quest time out if I just don't talk to him at all after starting the quest? Then I could train drinking first. And what is the fastest way to grind drinking?

I learned you have to make him drink with him 3 times with 3 beer option then he offers to play
