The general consensus is to start on Normal first, but I started on Hardcore and I can say that so far it is doable. It is quite difficult in some respects though (check thread).
sometimes you allso have to find your way on normal just like you have to do in hardcore.
In personal (since i played both) i would start on normal.
I started on hardcore (because i allways start games on the highest difficult level) too.
But it was soon just a pain in the ass searching for everything without quest markers especially while you are still learning the game mechanics.
So i did a normal run and then started the hardcore mode.
But unfortunately the lategame gets to easy anyway (doesn´t matter if you play on hardcore or normal)
the main problem of this game is that you can allready get the best armor and weapons within just the first 1/3 of the game. there soon comes the point where you have 20 k money and absolutely no gear left to buy because you allready own everything
Oh, that's a shame. I see no reason to learn lockpicking then? I tend to play a paragon of virtue in games like this anyway, so perhaps it's worth setting some restrictions like no thieving and looting. Thank you for warning me.
"Unlearn what you have learned."
Seriously, the biggest challenge in Hardcore, by far, is navigation. Combat isn't even the issue (once you've had the in-game training).
Well if you want the best sword in this game "st. georgs sword" you need level 6 lockpicking.
(this was the only reason why i learned lockpicking at all :) but you can also steal thsi sword early in the game then sell it and buy it back to make it legal (but for me this is somehow cheating because i would use a glitch)
I mean thats my "henry" (i play it in german) soon after the battle of pribyslavitz
Allready a too high level (when you think that the max level is 20) for this time of the game :(

Perhaps this is why? I need to grind some levels... but I was absolutely fine up until this point.
F*ck you Runt!
Some people here say that even hardcore is too easy. Well then try again with ALL negative attriubutes selected. I mean the attributes which you have select before you start. You can select all of them.
