My Game Won't Load
okay, so I just got this game a couple days ago and was having fun. However, about 12 hours in I stop playing and save and exit the game. The next day I come back and try loading up my last save. I goes to the loading screen, and then just crahes back to my desktop. It does this everytime; it doesn't matter whta save game I try to load (my newest one or one that's a couple hours old). I tried restarting my computer (yes, also turned it off and off again), I tried verifying my game files, and I looked around for a way through the power of the internet, nothing. I really don't want to start from the beginning because I already sunk 12 hours in and i'm really lazy and dont feel like playing through it all over again. If any of you peeps have somkind of fix, or advice please let me know. Thanks!

EDIT: So I used Greybishop's advice (deleting all save files from C:\users\user(your name)\Saved Games\Kingdom Come Deliverance) and it seemed to not work. However, I tried reloading some older saves as a last ditch effort and.... it somhow worked! From there I loaded my newest save from in game and, guess what it worked! Now, try to stay with me here, I saved my game using a saviour shnap thing (I normally just use the nexus mod to save, since I want to save anytime anywhere) then exited the game without save exiting. I went back into the game I tried to load that new save, it didnt work, it crashed like the other times. So I went back into the menu and tried hitting continue and it, for whatever reason, worked! I don't know exactly what's causing the problem (the game itself or the mod or some other weird thing) but I was somehow able to fix it...I think? It's all kinda weird and touchy. If anyone has any other fixes still leave them below for other people like me who dont want to restart. Thanks!

Hmm

The one save corruptor I know is if you subtract the ancient treasure DLC after you start a game. You didn't buy any DLC during this last sale did you? That could possibly affect the save file, though I am not sure how unless you turned them off.

Another issue is that the save and exit file is temporary, and is deleted when loaded, which may have caused a compounding issue for you.

My Googlefu is stating that this is a Cryoengine issue, less than a game issue. People have stated no amount of Dev patching will fix this, and it hits people more often on consoles than on PC (though people, anecdotal evidence). It also seems random, some people claims it is due to the number of saves made, but I have 160 hours, you would think I would have run into it. Some people make backups to their saves. Steam does this automatically if you have Steam cloud up.

Now, I am not saying you have to do this, but it may work. If you delete all the physical saves from your drive and allow Steam to download from the save cloud, it could fix the issue. It could also leave you in the situation you are in now, as the cloud saves could be corrupted too. Its a possible fix, or leaving you further up poo creek.

Thanks for your reply. No, I didn't buy any dlc over the sale (I have the HD adiuo thingy, but I dont think that counts). I'll probably try out your suggestion (the steam cloud thing), since I don't really have anything to lose. So, I just delete all my physical saves from the game and steam automatically uses the steam cloud thing? I never used it before so I don't really know how to use (I don't even know if I have it set up). Thanks for your help so far!

Yeah, you will go to load the game and Steam will notice a difference in the files and ask if you want to sync up. You say yes and it will begin to download the files.

You used to have to set it up, but now cloud drives run in the background of just about anything now so it is seemingly an automatic feature. (Same reason Discord servers are free). The way to check is to right click the game, to to properties, updates, at the bottom will be steam cloud and there should be a check box.

Should I delete them from "in the game" or delete from the game directory (just making sure so I dont destroy everything, thanks!

Should be in somewhere roughly called C:\users\user(your name)\Saved Games\Kingdom Come Deliverance

Found mine with the same path

So I deleted all my saves and I went back into the game and I tried to load it.....well it didnt work. I checked bac into the saved games folder and they were all back, so steam must have redownloaded them. The game still crashes when I try to load a saved game, any other ideas?

No, that was my one. I am sorry man.

A flaw like that can't be in the game itself, that has to be in the engine. How or why they didn't fix it in the first iteration is odd. It should have been known about in Crysis. Then again, people were stating it was known about in Crysis. . .

Hold up, after messing around with the saves I was able to load a really old save (one from only 2 hours in), and...it worked! From there I was able to load my newest save and then I saved it again. I quited the game and then tried to load the game I just created, then it didn't work. Kinda weird, right? If I find to make it so you dont have to go through that extra step ill post it here! A big thanks to Greybishop, your suggestion must of worked half-ly.

(Should it happen again..do this NEXT TIME before you delete anything? :)
Verify the game...it MAY HAVE downloaded In-correctly and is Missing files
(words written below in ( Brackets) mean "Do this action",)
THIS is part of Steam to FIX all non functioning games;
go to the game Library
FIND
Kingdomcome; Deliverance
(right click on it)
OPEN
Local Files
(scroll down to find)
VERIFY,
(click on it and let it run)
DONE!
99.9% chance in my mind that the game will start/run after this
Suggest to CLOSE steam after if Verifies all files
then restart steam and the KCD game
