Only place alcohol into cooking pots? Point of pots besides food?

I can't seem to put anything but alcohol or poison into cooking pots.

How exactly do they work?

I read that I can poison bandits with it and that my reputation takes a hit if I don't put food into the cooking pot.

But I've also read that putting potions or alcohol into the pot makes it so I can use the buff more than once.

Is there any truth to these statements?

Also how come I can't add normal food stuff into the pots.

(I know you can cook in fires, I want to add food to the stew to give away)

It's not for cooking meals. There is historical accuracy to the pots. The purpose is to have a place to eat, but not to cook new food. You can use the fire to cook food in your inventory (look at the fire, not the pot) and cook apples and rabbit and etc. The pots are for you to eat from, poison bandits, get them drunk by adding alcohol. You can only cook you'r inventory by looking at the fire not the pot. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense but the mechanics were too dificult for the devs to implement (apparently).

I know about cooking in the fire but I swear I was able to put bad apples in the pot once.

Is it only for using to do harm? I thought I could use it to continue the purpetual stew.

At the current state of game you really can´t do sooooo much rpg like, even there are lots of possibilities or hints leaving empty spaces- specially because they had to bring out the game to see how it sells and works. Cooking food would be cool, ok.... not like Paul Bocuse (but maybe more like that *choose rabbit, click,pffffft, get cooked rabbit* action), or more minigames like alchy and sharpening blades....(yep, instead of only clicking around, fastrepairing stuff...) .

I although used flacons on my weapons (blades or clubs) with all kind of poisons- don´t know if there really was an difference (not that you fight epic battles against one bossmob for 10 minutes ...)
Or you can inflame/ erase campfires ...why that?
I think having watched a guard peeing against a wall...why can´t Henry do that?
Warhorse still can do alot magic with the game as it is now....hope they take their time
