Ignore the archers and the archer side goal and just keep killing the normal guys.
Don't forget you can pause the mainstory and just do some leveling like:
- go to Bernard (swordmaster in Rattay) and learn all moves especially master parry and train with him to get weapon skill, warfare and defence on ~10 for the miniboss in the bandit camp
- skill stealth, lockpick and get the best armor & weapons from Sassau and Rattay smiths (lockpick 15 required for their chests).
Is there even an option to change the direction of the attack? I've had the impression they automatically choose that no matter what you didn during the scouting. I've spied the whole camp and the other path from the west seemed to be a little better but they didn't considered it.
During that mission, I tried to rush and kill the bandits before the soldiers came and all went well.
Before all this, I had the same problem with too many soldiers died.
