Run. At least until you become stronger and get better equipment.

Cumans for instance have a pretty high skillset (statwise) which you can´t easily overpower by "playing good". You´ll have to grind, either by training or fighting easier enemies (like poor bandits without armor).

Very important!: Learn your parry/riposte and first few combos until you can do them in your sleep! I´ve spent some odd hours with captain bernard to get a proper feeling!

Literally the saying: git gud

I mean no offense, you really need to practice. I saw someone post in a discussion that you should NEVER go 1v4 unless you are some sort of blood thirsty maniac sent by Jesus to punish the heathens with a smacking. Get good gear, learn how to block, parry, and clinch (pushing yourself into the enemy, hitting buttons faster then them eg: swinging , thrusting, kicking with F) and lay the smack down.
Understand the fact that your armor wears after each fight, and it's going to wear down , fast. The stats will drop with it, same goes with the enemy you're fighting with, what they wear needs to be broken down as well before you manage to deal any damage. I reccomend fighting them with the horse on if you're high with horsemanship and it won't kick you down. Getting distance and using a bow is a strategy as well.

have you reached rattay yet...what you need to do is do all of the main quest missions up and once you talk to the bailiff about becomming a guard you stop doing the main quest and train with captin bernard in the training yard...DO NOT GO FURTHER OR YOU WILL GET FRUSTRATED. once you meed up with the guard to patrole the city you will be questing none stop until you go to a battle in which case you may get stuck with a boss fight that may be unwinnable whcih would be really horrible (these aren't really spoilers so dont worry) talk to captin bernard at the rattay combat arena and just keep fighting him with practice swords...your skill will level up and combat will get easier...you will memorise the moves that the enemies can do and once you get good with 1 person you will find that you will have no problems with bandits unless there are like 10 of them (which does happen in some areas) in which case i suggest running or surrendering if you can

note: captin bernard is literally the most skilled npc in the game so you will get very beat up by him but once you can consistantly beat him you are ready for 3v1 battles.

yes i already reach rattay , after unsconsius against thug who stole father sword.

and maybe which weapon is better to use???

sword or axe or mace ??

you need to leran master strikes asap, maces are the best weapon against plate armored enemies.
This game is all about stats, so you need to train a lot..

Clearly I must be doing something wrong taking down armored enemies with just a sword.

mace is by far the best against plate armor, however the longsword is the best starting point to learn the combat mechanics as it has the best range (asside from a polearm which isn't finished and basicly useless)...go see captin bernard and train...you can do this once you complete the quest train hard fight easy...like literally right when it says train hard fight easy completed is when you want to spend a good 2-3 hours irl learning how to fight...the higher your warfare stat the smoother the combat will feel...you will also have a larger window for perfect block as you level up that skill meaning you will be able to master strike a lot easier

edit: if you have to go hunting with sir capon then you have gone too far and you will not be able to train until after a mission which is actually quight long and time scensitive...due to the time sencitivity which you will feel you may accidentally go on the raid befor knowing how to fight and will have to fight runt who will absolutely destroy you

You have to train with Bernard to get stronger.

This. You have to train to get better. And remember if you attack in the direction that you'r apponent is holding his weapon he will block it. So re-train in rattay and do the combat. Listen to what Bernard says. It helps.

Bow to the face works wodners. That's how I got great equipment pretty fast. Finished the game yesterday with over 150k of money too (no cheating)

But for hand to hand combat. Try to trick enemies, you can hold your sword like you're about to hit him from the top, but change to a hit from the right or left instead, they can block those hits too, but they hit more often than the regular ones and just from my experiance, the stab is pretty great.

not too hard if you steal the rattay armorsmith's entire inventory XD

You can master strike or you can simply pull up your bow and headshot them. They die instantly with a headshot.
