This is how to fix dxgi_error_device_hung errors in Kingdom Come Deliverance
Hi everyone,

Basically after the first few hours and prologue of Kingdom Come Deliverance I kept getting a crash, followed by the error dxgi_error_device_hung which would effectively stop my video card and exit application (would even save any shadowplay/shareplay recordings). I kept getting these crashes seemingly out of nowhere and my system is top of the line specs wise (I can run this game pretty easily with ultra settings). Anyway after looking everywhere online there is a lot of speculation, misinformation and non-fixes for the issue (especially because this error could indicate hardware/driver issues) - BUT THIS IS THE ACTUAL FIX AND ISSUE:

I am running a Aorus 1080 ti Xtreme which is a factory overclocked card which has never had an issue with any other games - this game is extremely unstable with overclocked cards of any series. I found a point I could reproduce the crash every time (dream/nightmare sequence after prologue) and after doing the below I can confirm that it has been fixed and I've not experienced the crash since or any noticable drop in performance in-game.

Open Nvidia Control Panel > 'Help' > 'Debug Mode' (This will be greyed out if you are using a stock/founders edition card)

This will set your factory overclocked card to Nvidia's stock speed - this can be toggled on and off and will reset back to factory OC on PC reboot.

If you are getting this issue on an AMD card simply look up the stock clocks of the reference card of your model and manually downclock in the overclocking software (crimson or w/e it is called now).

I hope this helps someone! :)

thanks :) this post from almost 2 years ago saved my sanity with this infuriatingly fragile game! same story here but with a pre-overclocked Gigabyte 2070 Super.

I was having the same issue on an msi 580 gaming x which is also factory overclocked. I dropped the core frequency and memory frequency and seems like the issue is resolved.

Time to RMA

Oh wow, I completely forgotten about this post but I sure am glad to have helped you guys! Had no problems with the game since and this is a good reminder to actually finish it off.

My GPU/rig is still running strong so it's surely an issue with this game specifically.
