B. Do you have a fast horse and race through town on it? You can kill people by accident if you bump into them.
I accidentally killed a merchant or guard who was fighting with bandits once. Tried to ride through the fighting area.
It depends on base horse speed, if you are galloping, the armor of the NPC, maybe horse armor, if the NPC is already wounded for other reasons, if you maybe can cause bleeding, ...
Just tested it with a Tier 6 horse. A wandering knight in full plate needed three times. A peasant traveller was down after two tramplings. After the first hit he was standing still, holding his stomach. Already encountered several travellers in that pose, even a guard in Rattay. Looks like they do not heal from previous hits. Cannot heal them either, so the risk increases with playtime.
P.S.: Mods who increase horse speed further can cause one hit kills. So ride carefull.
Not sure what also could have an influence. Knight Perk? Inventory weight?
Horse speed with items and perks is 76. Riding skill is 20.
Other times it has happened that I save the game, and upon reloading the game, some NPC was too close to my character, and they died while darned near killing me! Last time it was a dice player--the conversation hung up after making the bet. I'd just saved the game though, so I restarted the game. I was at very low health with my Last Gasp buff kicked in, and people screaming about someone's been killed. At least that time no one blamed Henry. Best part was the next dice playing NPC showed up and we played while he kept complaining about the corpse!
Anyway, about accidental horse killing--it can happen with one hit in the right area. I watched my husband testing it by running down every poor soul in Rattay. If you run over a beggar in grey who's bowing in the muddy street, you can kill them with one unfortunate blow without ever seeing the victim.
I ride carefully in towns and pathways now, and when people approach my horse, I know they don't know how to walk around a horse so I dismount quickly to avoid hurting them. LOL
