Not only is that true, you can swap items between your own inventory and the horses inventory regardless of distance. If you leave your horse in Rattay and go to Uzhitz by foot, you can still swap items, and if you don't whistle for the horse it will be where you left it in Rattay, however if you do whistle for your horse it will instantly teleport in behind you. Yup, your horse moves faster than the speed of light. :)
