Hunted meat stolen?

I just hunted an elk its meat was branded as stolen and when I sold it all to the butcher the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ woman said "oh you are selling me stolen goods, lets take a bit off of the price" -.-

Is this a bug or do I have to have a hunting permit or something?

same thing happened when i tried meat from a deer i found on the road. i wanted to sell it an inkeeper that had just told me he would buy game from me. i gues he only wants game meat of particular quest animal and then stolen is sudenly ok.

Even if you find the meat on a dead carcass on the road you will still be considered a poacher since you took the meat from the King's land.

yea where the hell do you have to go to hunt because this was going to be my reliable source of income until everything is marked as damn stolen

The most reliable source that I found is bandit and stray cuman hunting. Their gear usually sells nicely.

When hunting or poaching. Locals to the area you poached in will recognize the kings meat somehow lol. There are two ways to get around this. 1. You sell to the millers on the black market. 2. Don't try to sell the meat at the closest town or village you killed the animals. Goto a differnt town further away and they'll buy it no questions asked.

Some items, (Meat spoils) if you hang on to them long enough, lose their stolen status after some time. Everyone forgets after ahwile.
