Spear + Shield?

One of my pet peeves in many RPG's is that spears seem to be only 2h weapons but often actually were wielded 1h + a shield which is a combat style I quite like when available.

I was wondering if that will be available here? I saw a post saying 2h spear will be avail, but I saw a screenshot I think with a 1h spear and shield as well.

Anybody know?

This could be an Ai thing only without shield but alas I think it opens up for the possibility atleast one handed spears. So frankly maybe they are in or is that a throwing spear like a javelin for hunting?

I have seen guards with a spear in one hand in videos so maybe they are in but im not sure if the player can use one and or if they can use it with a shield. And I agree with Op spears with shilds are suprisingly rare in terms of options in games to wiled beyond a 2 handed poke poke thing.

Javelins became obselete in the middle ages, because the medium range didnt work against armored cavalry. It wouldve been easier to just have pikemen or crossbowmen. So because this game is going for historical realism, i dont think itll be in the game.

I wont claim a high knowledge on the subject, but I believe 1h spear and shield was not used as much in bohemia in 15th century. Pike (which was 2h) was much better vs cav and in hand to hand spear is not good. They didnt fight in tight formation of greeks and romans anymore during this time, this is where a spear was decent. Even then romans switched to a short sword.

You can carry a 2 handed spear with 1 hand, they aren't that heavy. That guy in the picture is simply holding it, it's perfectly possible he would need to use both hands to actually use it in combat.

I have no idea weather there is 1 handed spears in the game or not.

well their going for historical accuracy for the most part, so I don't see why not if what you say is true.

If not it's probably one of the few things they've overlooked and maybe a mod will sort that out for you :)

That is how I understand it. He would need to use two hands to actually fight with the spear.
