Halfswording?

Can you halfsword in this game? (With hand protection obviously). I saw in one of the gameplay trailers the player jab a guy wearing a helmet with his pommel and it made me wonder if we're going to see the medieval swordsman's answer to plate armor

There is predominantly 'the fight at wide measure'. But there are devices you can use which involve attacks with half-swording or pommel strikes, as well as other strikes aimed to 'typical' weakpoints as an outcome. A complete system of harness fechten with the sword isn't in the scope of the current combat system though, and would be fairly confusing to play on screen - it is predominantly a close-in 'feeling' game with balance and controlling your opponent being important elements.. not easy to 'show' on a screen in first person.

Better (or at least faster and more consistent) results will be found with percussion weapons (axes or mace/hammer type weapons) or polearms. These one handed percussion weapons give up some speed of action and reach for a much more forceful strike... and the polearms give somewhat extended reach at the expense of being awkward to carry around.
