Do I need books after reading them?
Or is it okay to sell them?

After reading, they're useless.

Only unique-looking books are skill books too, the ones with ribbons or unique deisgns.

I saved up a library of books until I realized it was time to just clean house and sell them all (after reading them all of course).

I don't think there is any use for them other than one quest requires you to have one random book for the dried ink in a recipe.

While that is possible... are you sure you didn't need a book so you could scrape off the ink from the parchment pages in order to create a new herbarium (book of herbs) using the now blank pages?

If what you said is also required then you may need two books altogether.

You can do that herbarium quest with parchment or recipe scroll, too.
