Were you running around the stables with your weapon drawn by any chance?
In OP's case it has something to do with the guy in the woods I think.
Just to clarify - did you kill the bandits in the woods yourself, before you returned to Bernard or did he & his men kill them?
And at what stage are you being thrown in jail for training with Bernard? - is that after the Neuhof thing or did you re-load a save from the training in Rattay?
I surrendered, and then the dialogue for the quest to go find Lubosh continued as normal. No warnings or threats to send to jail. After the dialogue ended, he acted like nothing had happened. I didn't have the red bag of coins signaling I was wanted at all.
Later, I stopped at Bernard in Rattay to learn master strikes, we did the training as normal. As soon as it was completed, I got the red coin purse on the hud and he attacked again, and then accused me of attacking people, of which I assume he meant him while I was training with him, and he wanted to throw me in jail.
At that point I just shut off the game, and I restarted. My last save was before the training, but after the initial bug where he attacked me for no reason. I redid the training and nothing happened this time, it completed as normal and he didn't attack me or try to send me to jail.
My frustration levels just keep rising with this game.
When I did that part, I returned to Bernard before killing the bandits & he sent one soldier back with me, then he & the rest of his men showed up right after we killed the bandits - and he made a bee-line for me & initiated the dialogue.
I've also seen it where he brings all his troops along & Henry follows them - they kill the bandits & THEN Bernard initiates dialogue.
In most events it seems he is supposed to force you into dialogue in the clearing. Sounds like for you his AI package somehow got confused between "seek & arrest mode" and "seek & force dialogue mode".
Since you weren't present when they arrived at the clearing it's possible his AI switch trigger didn't get processed properly, which might leave him in "seek & arrest mode" for your arrival at the clearing rather than "seek & force dialogue mode"... but why would he seek & arrest you when you are the player?...
This makes me think that target packages in KCD are a separate thing to general AI packages. If his general AI got stuck on "seek & arrest" but his target package had been correctly switched from the bandits to you"... well he'd seek & arrest you.
The cause could be any one of several things... a missing or duplicate library reference caused by the patch maybe... or a simple case of an AI trigger "spot" being moved (this can be easy to do by accident in library editors). It's even possible that Bernard's trigger "spot" was occupied by another NPC at the time & his pathfinding just gave up trying to get to it.
As for getting the red coin purse after training... I got nothing on that. I guess it's possible you landed a blow after his combat package ended, even if he still looked like he was sparring. Maybe I'll have more for you when I go back to him again for more training.
This is where it would be helpful if the devs released some more console commands so we could fix things for ourselves...
These aren't major problems, they're just bugs - they can be fixed & undoubtedly they will be.
Devs are always caught between a rock & a hard place with EA titles... on one hand they're pressured like hell to release as soon as possible but on the other hand they get slated by their customers for releasing games before they're ready. Warhorse have openly said they would've liked more time - but they'd already committed & going back on that in the face of baying publishers, platform franchises & customers can quickly kill a fledgeling studio - if that'd happened there'd be no fixes for anything ever.
People are playing & enjoying though; and as long WH continue to support their game with fixes & updates then the terms "released" and "EA / Beta" really should have no meaning at all to us as players. They're just dev cycle terms that define contractual deadlines between studios, publishers & franchisers.
btw the only ones that i shot and killed were those 2 bandits that were troubling ginger
i read that its possible to enter console commands is that right? perhaps its possible to write somekind of code in there to reset the AI of captain bernhard perhaps? or maybe in the game's files somehow? because ive spend hours on this quest man lol
and i really love the game so far so would be really sad if this ruins the fun
