Captain Bernard is impossible to train with
So the recent patch cranked up high level enemies, Can't say much on that cause I'm still early on, but the training with captain bernard is just ridiculous now. I trained against him before the patch and I wouldn't say it was easy, but beating him was possible. Now, it's stupid, half the attacks you throw at him he blocks and the remaining 95% of the time he will auto parry your attack and damage you.

I've fought him with real weapons and training, real weapons he kills you before you can get two hits in and training the occasional hit you do get in doesn't make him flinch, so that whole part where he teaches you about combos can go ♥♥♥♥ itself in the corner cause the rare occasion you slap him with your sword he'll completely ignore it and punch you in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ head.

Like I said, I'm not far into the game, this is probably the first propper fight I've been able to have which wasn't flailing a sharp piece of metal at a peasant. Before the patch I enjoyed it, now I feel like if the rest of the game is like this I'm not going to bother playing. I don't have much free time and continuing on with this experience will be wasting what little time I have.

11 HOURS TOTAL GAMEPLAY ^
i didnt beat bernard until 30 hours of gameplay but then again the op has stated that he doesnt have that much time in the game so it makes sence that he cant beat bernard as he is one of the strongest fights ingame

People provoke toxicity.

People being provoked literally is the definition of toxicity. You, sir, are a toxic elitist little brat. That's all there's to it. Take that for a meta because it's true ;)

Seriously, mate. I really enjoy discussing a fun game (flawed or not) with a like minded people, but 80% of posts here are either whiney bs like this one or unreasonable fanboy awe tirades.

I dunno whats keeping me here, I guess I just hope it will become something better =)
I find the stupidity and tears entertaining, so while I'm not really doing anything, I like to come watch, and occasionally put some fool in check. It is quite pathetic though. Fanboys screaming this is the best RPG ever, better than Skyrim, better than The Witcher.Cry babies, I think we get like 10-15 "patch broke the game" threads a day, or "My FPS sucks"... oh, my favorite, the "I QUIT!" threads, like anyone cares lol, fun times.

Haha yeah exactly. And I forgot another huge category - the blatant trolls trying to start a flame war. That makes for a third head of the dragon called KCD steam discussions.

i thought we were having a conversation about how tough captin bernard is....why do people let it devolve into this...all you have to do is literally not respond

I'm talking about training against him low level, because he is the first combat trainer in the game, you're supposed to be able to go against him as a new player with a low level character. I'm not talking about the fight being hard I'm saying there's a literal dice being rolled every time a low level character takes a swing at him and 95% of the time the dice says he auto parries, and the damage he does will destroy a low level character. There is no difference in player skill because no matter how well the player can block or dodge they can't win because attacking means they take damage not the enemy.

I don't get it...where is the problem here in not being able to beat him? Do you need to beat him to progress some quest?

In my playthrough I stripped naked and trained with him with the training weapons to not damage my armor. With the wooden sword you can't really damage him in the first place, so you have all the time in the world to skill up.

And yes, the master strikes are ♥♥♥♥ and badly implemented, but the player can use them as well, so they don't make the combat more difficult they just make the combat mechanics worse and more boring.

In terms of realism it makes sense that you can't beat him in a fight when Henry is so unskilled, Though by that point if he won't hold back in a fight he'd just say "Well there ain't ♥♥♥♥ you can do against me so I'll find you a weaker opponent to train with" But in terms of this being a game and in any game realism has to step aside for game mechanics. It's bad that the first introduction in skilled combat (Again, not counting wailing at peasants) is up against an enemy who is flat out undefeatable, not like Dark souls "Can't beat the asylum demon cause you have no skill" that is good difficulty, this is rolling a dice every time you hit an opening and the dice saying you lose instead of the NPC, because the NPC has better stat numbers than you do.

This is basically saying to every new player "These are the rules on how our combat works, and you'll never have skill in this game because the computer gets to decide that you fail not your skill"

to be fair its better to train against the hardest oponent than train up as you will get your @#%# handed to you but then you will be able to block his attacks and then possibly even attack him making combat with less skilled people easier...i mean look at games such as chivalry where learning how to fight one of those level 100 players who will hit you 6 times befor you can even comprehend the first move makes it easier to fight other people as you begin to learn how to fight that style and get good. you can veat captin bernard with a sword in no clothing once you learn how to beat him as it is possible but very difficult i mean i literally practiced with him for 4 hours befor i could beat him but then i had the problem of other enemies became too easy so in the update they buffed the ai to meed the needs of the players such as myself who were complaining that combat was too easy unfortunatly at the detriment of others so as a fix i propose they implement a difficulty setting which scales how easy or hard the enemies are as they obviously can do it with a simple casual, normal, and hardcore system like other games so you dont have people throwing their mouse because they cant play the game without havign to literally run from everyone and still die often and others who have mastered the combat and get frustrated with how overly easy it is

Bernard is not some random scrub with a sword. You have really have to use feints. parries/ripostes, and combos if you want to beat him.

Yeah I use feints/parries/ripostes and combos you know what Bernard does? Block 95% of them or riposte on his own. I perform a Perfect Block? Somehow he STILL parries and ripostes it with no defense for me. Try to set up a combo? Blocks or dodges at latest the third hit. Bernards defenses are way too strong, if it wasn't for the full plate I had along with Revenant he'd probably have killed me a few times over by now.

I started learning karate today, and have spent several seconds learning Karate.
Chuck Norris kicks my arse. Therefore, Chuck Norris is impossible to train with.

he is difficult but very beatable...you really need to utilize master strike and stun him in clintches which will allow you to get some combos on him. his head is vulnerable due to his open helmet so utilize that and take note at which direction he has his sword at as you need to attack in the opposite direction
