Learn Sword Skills - where?
So, I'm playing a game where I am not running around for Radzig and so therefore Sir Bernard is NOT standing about at the ...forgot name of it...sword practice place.

Anybody know of alternatives for upskilling weapon skills, aside from in combat?

Yeesh. I've gone the straight playthrough, doing the main quest and so forth, so I don't really know. I haven't seen anyone else who does sword training. I know Fritz will do unarmed, if you can find him, and I don't remember who but I have seen one or two axe trainers. I'm not sure if you'll get the riposte and so forth if you don't at least get to the point where you can talk to Bernard at the training field, though...

Other than the xp gain from beginer training. All weapons are only skilled up by using them in combat (even chopping bunnies).

If you're going to cheeze with Bernard, you might as well cheeze with any NPC that's flagged as essential (e.g. main story/major npc's, not sure if there's a list anywhere). Just knock them out from behind, throw them on a table, and smack them with your weapon til you're level 20 skill. Of course if you're not careful, this could destroy your town reputation...

There is no one else you can spar against, the only way is to practise against enemies. But they go down way too quickly once you level up a bit so not much help in that regard.

Hopefully one of the patches will actually make the arenas scattered around the world useful.

Coplete main quest until:

Benard will go back to the combat area in rattay once you co plete Ginger in a Pickle. He stays there until the later part of the Main quests.

Or find random banits?

There's a sparring arena in Talmberg. Not sure if it will answer your prayers though.

I might just see if I can get by without the grinding at the practice arena. It might just be better this way.

If you don't train with Bernard you will never learn the Master Strikes technique.

Why make your life difficult by refusing to do an easy main quest and just unlock Bernard's training? It takes about 5 minutes.

You can find mercenaries and a wimpy knight along the roadsides randomly. They will ask you to duel. I usually train my defense against them. Just let them swing at you and only block or dodge their swings until you get tired of it. If you accidentally kill them, don't worry, they will respawn eventually. You can also train your strength and unarmed by punching cows : )

You will never learn perfect blocks and master stroke without bernard. Unless you want to be an archer you will not be fully effective with any weapon without him.

On the other hand, when you get to high weapon skill and strength, you will not need master stroke to defeat anyone. The lack of perfect block will be less painful with high stamina too. And you will have clinch to make an opening.

All in all, you don't really need bernard if you can get to high level of skills.

You need to progress the Main Quest until they tell you to go train with Bernard in Rattay. He teaches you EVERYTHING. Combos (Activates weapon perk combos) , Ripostes, Master Strikes, and Dodges. I went through 70% of the game without Combos and Master Strikes activated for my weapons of choice. Be sure to keep talking with him and training when you can it's easy xp when you fight him.

Because I am role-playing.

After the Ginger quest, Bernard will begin walking back to Rattay. Just go to the training ring and pass time until he gets there. He's there early in the morning before noon

There won't be a Runt if I haven't activated Sir Bernhard, smart guy.

:) I know who Bernard is, and what he does. Not sure why you are telling me.

Anyway, thanks all. I am playing a game without Sir Bernhard. I don't miss that pompous sack of s4\t.
