how high does my Maintenance need to be to fix everything?
my Maintenance is at 17 and I still can't fix most items once they get damaged below 60. Once I skill it to 20, can I fix everything regardless of the condition?

also, if I sharpen my sword manually, then the sword gets damaged, then I fix it with a blacksmith kit, do I still benefit from the perks Serrated Edge and Tin Opener?

There will always be a point where you have to take it to a vendor. Even at 20, stuff just breaks. Consider it the difference between maintenance and full repairs.

Can't speak for the other ones, but I'm quite sure it counts as having been sharpened recently, and having been repaired by you (but not damaged as its at 100).

So I'm at 20 maintenance and I can only repair stuff that ahve at least 61 condition. If less then I need to have a specialist repair them.
Doesn't apply to bladed weapons (except daggers) because you can use a grindstone, at least to bring them to 61+ and then use a kit for convenience.

As already mentioned. 60 is the threshold of "user-level" repair maintenance. I guess 60+ represents worn, dirty, dull, loose, nicked, etc whereas below that is outright broken.

As far as I've seen, those perks work on any weapon which you've sharpened yourself in the past, even if you've more recently used a blacksmith kit on it. I don't know if a sword/black smith's repair breaks that or not...I don't think I've ever taken an edged weapon to a smith for repair.

While on that general topic....is there a way to clean the blood off a mace without taking it in for shop repair? Seems somewhat silly that Henry can repair substantial damage to a mace, but is seemingly incapable of cleaning up some bloodstains on it while doing so (same rationale would go for using kit repair on a sword/axe as well, for that matter...not sure why we have to go to grindstone for that).

after every battle do a repair...best way to maintain
unless you're just horrible at combat, I cant imagine you're taking 40+ points of dmg to any 1 pc of armor

I think that's what it means maintenance. The feature to repair a heavily damaged weapon might have been part of the blacksmithing skill but this was cut from the game due to lack of time and polish
WH did say that they would implement cut features back though

I'm playing without a shield or wearing any armor because combat is too easy. And if I just take 1 or 2 hits my shirt from Stephine gets ruined and I have to find a tailor, it's pretty annoying

You can use a mod that allows you to repair everything.

damn, why are you trying to play waterdancer? this game is clearly 'amror up and smash people in their face'...there are perks later on that will help out with dodging and armor wear and tear, so hang in there in and look out for those perks when they're available
