Do not pick the insomniac and contemplative perks
Just a short advice. They take away the joy of having to care for food before going to bed and in the morning, and there's ton of different foods in the game.

Oh.. I loved these perks. I guess it matters on your playstyle really.

I hated being in the middle of a mission, in the middle of no where and suddenly my belly rumbles and I see I need food. Early game its a hassle carrying around food (taking up valuable inventory space).

I don't like doing quests during dark hours as I can't see much. So usually I wait (T) for several hours to pass time for daylight. I find it so much better to do this and not add extra worries like food or sleep. If I'm in middle of mission I don't want unnecessarily be bothered by hunger and sleep.

I mean it's definitely a matter of personal choice but I agree. Part of the game charme is the atmosphere, the "live a medieval life", and getting those perk (and some others too) ruins that feeling

This game is not meant to be played like skyrim, your living Henry's life so you have to plan accordingly. You wake up and buy breakfast (if you can afford it, otherwise you can poach it). It's getting late and you're still far away from home? Crash at a tavern and rent a bed. You know you'll stay up late tomorrow? Better brew an energy potion just to be safe

There are tons of way to take care of hunger and tiredness, ranging from the easiest to the more "involved": there are perpetual stews everywhere to satiate your hunger for free but everyone has some food on them, so just kill some bandits and get their food, or just steal it from townfolks; you can find improvised beds in every corner of the map but there are drinks and potions to get rid of tiredness too. There's no real need for perks that take this all away

and food spoil way to fast, i mean a properly salted side of pork in real life can stay edible for a few years.

There are so many cook pots around that I never carry any food except dried mushrooms.

As for the perks. I find many of them underwhelming, especially since so many have both a positive and a negative affect.

Exactly.. I love the idea of having to eat, but its just , non important. There is too many cook pots around. You just never have to worry about food.

Its a pity.

Taking contemplative also takes away to control your hunger for potions. The only other way would be fast traveling (which is not precise as waiting), or a digestion potion ( which will make you drunk quite fast).
