The monastery
I can see what the designers were going for, but let's be completely honest. This quest is awful.

Generally, i like to do everything right, go through the motions etc, this quest pulls me right out of it. It's frustrating, the circators blame you for everything that could possibly be wrong, they're also psychic showing up out of nowhere when you're sneaking about. Apparently i can happily stalk through a bandit camp but you arne't where you're meant to be and circator john will appear out of nowhere and screw you over.

Literally just ranting. Carry on.

Unfortunately for being Benedictine monks they went too easy on Henry, but it is useful to skill up on speech before going in to convince the circators with the speechchecks.

That lasts like 3 or 4 tries though.

Although it is easy to just sprint around, really there is no charges for vargrancy or loitering and all that anyone really does is give you a small hassle. And if you preemptively tell Pious that you are looking for him indirectly and immediately, then your time in the monastery is going to be quite short and the ciractors are but skeeters looking to bite.

I told him directly, still was there for a while until he poisoned my food

I had the bad luck with pious, did everything perfect the first day, only basically causing all the quests to subsequently drop because i crouched up behind him but let to a fistfight, at the end he just phased through the floor or into heaven which lead me being unable to collect from him. Also right down to a door in your sleeping quarters, there is a balcony in the church, under a certain tile on the eastern side you can find a ceremonial dagger which of course has its use in the game trailer. Also daggers dont get equipped on their own, but instead can work better than knocking out.

I go to this quest last night and did not get that far. I was thrown in solitary for apparently ignoring my duties so I quit the game at that point. I will need to play again when I have some patience to do so.

I may just look up the fastest way to get through it.

There is a free lock pick behind the alter in the prayer room. There is also a dagger and groshen stash underneath a loose tile in the balcony room next to where you sleep. The one that overlooks the prayer room. You have free reign to this room during sleeping hours so it’s easy to get without breaking any rules .

I got annoyed with this quest and eventually just reloaded to the beginning of the quest. I killed the Pious right after he gave me the tour. I took his die and got the hell out of there. Quest complete. Only annoying thing is that every character I see now says something about me being an truant from the Monastery. Not sure how to resolve that.

Don't enter the monastry as a monk sneak in read the book at the abbots room about the novices. Kill Pius silently and sneak out with the dice.

Colour me surprised - going undercover in a monastery is not fun, **** and giggles? Who would've thought...

i found it awesome. i mean its in a point of a game, when you have tons of money, lots of gear and everything and suddenly they take everything from you besides knowledge that cannot be taken, like alchemy, reading, lockpicking etc. its a true RPG quest. but i gotta admit, it gets tedious after a few days in the monastery.

Huh - I'm on the other side. While I agree that the quest is awful, I thought that was the point the devs were going for. Monastic life is a penitent one. Note that this is where we get the word "penitentiary." Yup - it's bloody oppressive. Unless you're a true believer who's answered the call, the quest line is a fairly good representation.

That said, I absolutely dread having to do this quest line again.

lol, they didn't fix this quest? Almost made me uninstall this game, almost.

I found the monastery somewhat interesting. The fact you had chores to do was a reason I stayed longer. Gave me a reason to work on my alchemy and as someone that reads and enjoys lore/history decided to go through the books.

Handling the chores and doing your mission is easily manageable. This quest is all about patience. I went about talked to everyone finding out any hidden quests, and left Pious questions till last.

When discovered about Abbot's Book that's when I figured it's time to wrap things up.

Nice and easy. Slow and steady. I do with there were guards or patrols that happened. Even if it was every hour. The main thing it lacked were night circators.

My Stats (Strength, Agility, Speech, etc) were all about 10+ by now which I'm guessing helped. And the second night at the monastery I discovered the dice and drinking. I joined them, which I'm guessing why I never got punished.
