I sell most of my stuff to Therea's uncle (miller), and he has more than 10K coin when he resets. It appears the items you sold him gives the trader coin when he resets (like he sold the stuff you gave him).
On a side note ... You can increase reputation by selling items, haggle to give him a "top-up" and you slowly increase your reputation. Eventually you get better deals. If the trader's reputation with you is less than 10(ish), you pay to talk to him, be sure to have a lot to sell so you can increase that reputation above 10-15, after that you won't have to pay a "talk-to-me" charge.
Sell all you have to one trader even if he don't have enough money
wait 48h
Now he sold you item and your money is ready to be collected in the traders chest.
I just put stolen stuff in my global chest, found next to any of your official beds, or the beds in any lodgings you rent. Everyday check it for stuff you can sell thats no longer stolen. It gives the merchants time to restock their cash also.
