German VA is better than English

The sound quality of the German recordings is much better - it sounds like they recorded in a room with the microphone not directly in front of the actor's mouth and it fits in the game world much better.

Also, I much prefer the direction the director of the German voice actors took. He's much more serious and his actors deliver their lines with gravitas. In the English mode the actors, especially Henry, all sound much less serious and even a little bit comical. It's much less dramatic.

I played in german only but i have to agree. The quality of voice acting is really good. Better than many AAA games. Except volume mixing is messed atm but i guess they'll patch this.

is there english subtitles? cause from the sounds of it german is the way to play. but then again how would you read the books and do alchemy and stuff if you dont read german?

you can use subtitles with all languages that are shown at the KCD shopping page on steam.
