Is Ulrich important to the plot in later game?

I'm doing the mission All the glisters. I went to ask him to join me, and boy he did! He is such a manly man that he has gone directly to face a whole camp of well-armed bandits in his pijamas ¬¬ He died in like 2 seconds...

I'm wondering if I should load an earlier savegame or can I just let him root in the place for stupid.

I can tell you that he exits the plot after that segment.

He has orders to kill the guy you want to capture. So you either fight him (and he dies), let him kill the guy (and then he leaves), or convince him to abandon his mission (and then he leaves)

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Act 3 if you don't kill him or let him get killed.
