Stealth KO&Kill mechanics, how do they work?
I have the required perks, my noise is a measly 5, I'm wearing the silent boots, and I have a dagger. So why do nearly all of my knockouts and stealth kills fail?? I'm crouched, behind a guard that does not see me, in the middle of the night, and he STILL disarms and tries to arrest me. What the hell am I doing wrong? Is there any way to see your chances of success before committing or is every stealth takedown merely a coinflip?

They said stealth is broken atm, till they fix it

You need to train it first to at least level 5 to takedown pretty much anyone.
You can concentrate on KOing just civillians at first, or just go lockpicking and pickpocketing - both additionally improve stealth.

why wear boots at all? if you are naked you make 0 noise. as for the other part, I'm not sure but it may be related to strength. my only failed knockout was on a guy called "mercenary" who kicked my ass in a duel.

Silent boots with 0 noise exist. ;)

I also think that strength may be a factor whether you succeed in grabbing someone from behind

Ok, I will try working on strength activities for now. It is my lowest stat at 3. Perhaps I'll switch to a big axe or polearm (thank god for mods) till they patch stealth.

You're better off taking off all of your clothes so you have zero noise when you're trying to assassinate somebody. Your stealth skills needs to be high enough and your strength level might have something to do with it. Keep in mind that town guards are fairly high level enemies and they're probably extra resistant to sneak attacks compared to regular enemies (because of their experience in law enforcement, which is why they can hear broken lockpicks from farther away too)

It completly doesnt matter what you do or how your stats are from what i experienced. In a camp you can kill one with good stealth skill and 0-0-2 stats while he sleeps and all the others will wake up and chase you like you have 100-100-100. If you sneak behind one he will turn around at least 8 of 10 times immediately when you hold the button to stealth kill and he either attack you or run away.

Regardless of how little noise your clothes make, you're still going to make some sound when you stab a dude in the throat. When you're sneaking up behind somebody you gotta use capslock to slow down, you'll only ever get really low level enemies if you're crouch-walking at top speed.

The only enemy I've had issues sneaking up on so far are Cuman captains, and only when they're moving

Just because you unlock the stealth kill doesn't mean you win ... practice. The perk "Et Tu, Brute" should tell the player why stealth kill isn't working ... indeed, the attack is stronger with the perk, which tells me you can get better results against a target that isn't wearing armor.

Noise reduction is a no-brainer ... Look at the ALL the perks and get the ones that reduce noise, and of course, stop parading around in fancy armor. Play the part, win at stealth.

EDIT : Stealth broken or are players perception of stealth/noise broken?

Personally stealth has been working perfectly fine for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Same here, seems we are the proud few that have reading comprehension and reasonable deduction skills ... skills that cannot be selected with a simple mouse click to resolve our issues.

Yeah, it's not the noise produced by stabbing a guy I have issue with Cellnav. I am very well aware stabbing someone is a noisy, messy affair. It is when the enemy breaks out of the attempt seemingly automatically. Also there is really no reason to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it. Just because it's working fine for you doesn't mean the rest of us are brain dead enough to try assassinating someone in jangly metal armor or in broad daylight.

The problem with stealth in this game.

Say there is a bandit camp with 4 guys. You are smart and wait until they are all asleep (typically right before dawn).

If you sneak in there and take out one guy with stealth the others will will wake up and be ready for you.

On the other hand if you just run in there while they are all asleep with full plate and a mase you can take out 2-3 guys before they even get up.

Stealth is broken becasue it's not as good as just running in there guns blasing.

Uh naked is not better, you have 50/50 conspicious and visibility. With black clothes you can get it down to less than 20 and people won't even see you sneaking in front of them with the chameleon perk.
