You can't, only horses that you buy legally will bind to you
You have to buy a horse from one of the 3 stud farms in order to own it and use it for storage. Your slow horse (Pebbles), which you got by default early in the game, is crap.

For about 2k, you can buy a top tier horse which will last you until the end of the game. It's also the only expensive thing you need to buy. Everything else you can find without buying.

Don't forget to remove the saddle from Pebbles before getting a new horse or else you'll lose it. You can also buy a better saddle and horseshoes to boost your horse's stats.

Actully its easy if the horse doesnt have a name its like a prop we can only ride them.
So inspect any horse if it has a name and an owner you can either steal it or or ride it or buy it.

See, I dislike it when games treat horses, companions or pets as throwaway items as soon as you get the next one.

Swords and other gear is bad enough, I would rather be able to improve what I have to make it better, but when it comes to living creatures, then it gets even worse.

Let me train with them to get them to the same level instead of saying "Oh, you have been with me the entire game and saved my life several times? Eh, this horse/pet has better stats, so goodbye."

There is the perks for horse riding to improve any horse we ride including Pebbles.
Ride him for a long a time skills and new perks for both Pebbles and Henry are offered.
I upgraded Pebbles horse gear as well. His stats are pretty good and I wont part with him.

That would certainly ruin my immersion. You can't make a warhorse from an old mule.
And a choice between being sentimentally attached to something useless and having better stats makes total sense, and makes the game feel more alive.
That's what RPGs are all about
(Not that you neccessarily have to minmax everything, anyway - Pebbles does his job absolutely fine)

LOL, this is KCD, you have to add Girlfriend to that list, as well.

The stud farms usually ask about trading old horse in for a discount. I bought a new horse as soon as I had like 5k saved.

So I didn't have pebbles long at all. I think you can also steal a horse before you get pebbles and it will claim it for your Henry. But if you wanted a different one after that point you have to buy it.

It only claims it until you get Pebbles. Once you get Pebbles, he is your claimed horse.

That is true, but I disagree that is what RPGs are about. Basically, that line of thinking leads to everyone making the same character unless they intentionally want to gimp themselves, which very few people want to do.
