Perhaps your Henry just isn't at a point where he can effectively wear the armor.
Then yes, what you're seeing is likely the result that the game scales from Henry being terrible at everything to being a god among mere mortals in an exponential progression.

What we need is enemy scalling, with better gear and stats. Make the bandits AI just like Captain Bernard. At least we could have a fight...
edit: well at least for the "end game" if you could call that end game..
1. blunt strike combo hitting the guy in head or face with the pummel of your sword.
2. Half swording combo and there should be an animation of Henry stabbing the sword in the armpits of the enemy.
lets say, from 15 enemies, 13 of them don't even survive till i finish my combo. The other 2 die in 4-5 hits.
And that's the problem. Plate should have hard defence. No mater your level or skill. Simply hitting them with a sword/axe/hammer should not kill them. They should force you to use the combo. That way combos actually mater.
