All subsequent encounters have ended in tragic arrow or sword related deaths for the NPC. :)
Sometimes the person is actually innocent. These folks usually spawn and run out from the bushes.
If you have the option to force admission, sometimes the person is just a wretch with a story about how it went down as accidental or self-defence. Killing them in this case counts as murdering a civilian.
Other times, it's pretty clear they're a murderous looter.
What I hate is the obvious dialogue lines that imply the person is going to attack you, but they don't. Nor is there any way to cleanly exit those conversations.
I've taken to getting through the talk and then knocking them out afterwards anyway, regardless of guilt or innocence, and robbing them blind. It's funny that a character claiming to be poor and starving usually has 27 Groschen and four apples on them, so I don't feel too bad about it.
