No combos with short sword and shield?

I was using a longsword and shield and I didn't notice the combos till I started training with the long sword. And I heard in here that you could do combos with a shield and shortsword - but my combos never activate still.

Hmmm you may be right. Only one combo works for me with a shield (stab, left slash, down-right slah and you hit the opponent with a shield). The rest just don't work (like left slash, right slash, stab, stab)

I thought that this was the whole point of a short sword was because you could use a shield with it with the full capability of the short sword.

I also confirm down left slash, stab, stab doesn't work.

Well if you don't want to one shot everyone like me, you use a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ short sword and light armor.
Combos help a lot when you're doing a lot of dodging

I usually fight 1 vs 5 so light armour doesn't really help me

Still no news about this? I know that the longsword won't do combos and many of the parrys and ripostes won't work if you have a shield.

But no matter what, even when training with Bernard with real weapons, I still never get a combo to work. I can land ripostes, but no combos.

I feel like it's a bug.

combos are uselss and don't work anyway
don't feel like you're missing anything important

There is just one short sword skill that works with an shield. Pointless in my opinion, because why you should fight with a short sword anyways, if it's just a longsword with less damage.

My thoughts. The shortsword has absolutely no purpose if it can't effectively be used with a shield. We might as well just have a longsword. Warhorse should fix this, personally.

Yes, combos in general DO work, though practicing them is a bit frustrating. Sir Bernard will dodge/interrupt/perfect-block you about 80% of the time, making it hard to master. I do wish that there was a training dummy or something so that you could practice them without all that, just so you could confirm that you are doing it right before practice/real combat. I have noticed that the sword and board does seem to not like combos and the dummy idea would make it easier to confirm.

THere is a current bug where characters who went through Bernard's training since the patch can't do ripostes with short sword, mace, or axe. Long sword combos still work.

So that's probably the issue, since you also have to unlock master strikes just like ripostes.


Combos also won't work if any move in them is perfect blocked or riposted and Bernard is great at that.
