I'm lvl5 in new game (i already finished game once), and block still work great. And it much more depends on your own skill, not main hero lvl.
it's probably because they are doing a master strike on you
I have gone myself through any training that was available from him, from parrying to combos and it all does ♥♥♥♥-ALL. The "master strike" is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you'll NEVER pull it off because the rules the game teaches you don't apply to NPC's. They can block any and all attacks you made thus making it LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to carry out any kind of combo on a higher-than-average NPC, but you can't block their combos, never. The "parry icon" appears but it's just there to trick you, it doesn't work. Just to spit on your face and anything you've learned or told. You can't parry or block.
Nice for the game to have rules for combat mechanisms that only applies to player but not the NPC's who get literally free attacks and autocombos handed to them.
Been trying this one fight so long that at this point if one of the devs were in the room, I'd beat the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of them. ♥♥♥♥ you, try to break the combo of my blacking out your eyes you inbred ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loser ♥♥♥♥♥.
However eventually after giving them a good old whack, which in-turn makes them give up! There isn't a better feeling than making them pay you to stop... and then chasing them down to slaughter them anyway :)
I mean come on! I've listened to Bernard and his idea of spacing... I've ended up in different counties by trying to give them space, they just follow me with their sword up and don't go for a strike until they are close enough to head butt me xD
I say I partially agree because I don't think the combat is a deal breaker, if you are struggling to defeat them with melee weapons then switch to a bow and arrow and give them the space Bernard teaches you to xD
I've had 3+ foes walking towards me in a line and I've slaughtered by them walking backwards shooting arrows into them.
Not honourable, however the game likes to remind us how much of a peasant we are, so maybe try fighting like one. Instead of a noble.
The real issue... I am 14 hours in, can someone tell me if the ridiculous fetch quests calm down or at least get shorter?
I've spent 4 in game days trying to track a rune down for some ladys stupid wedding
Sounds like you need to play the game more so you can realize that there are actually unblockable, non-master-strike attacks in the game
im on the 2nd guy and there are several attacks i am unable to block, even tho im tapping and/or holding the block button, some of his attacks are getting through.
And, before anyone asks, i pride myself on a good defense, since it appears the best way to deal with higher skill opponents (for me at least) is to wait for them to attack and do a Master Strike back at him.
In the current example, there are 5 swings in his 'preferred; combo, i block hits number 1, 2 and 4. 3 and 5 always cut me despite blocking.
