I spoke with antonius and told him i was looking for pious, he then poisons you and then talks to you, i agreed to help him, got the blood and key, met him upstairs after evening mass and we left together, outside the monastery i told him i was taking him to the bailiff.
I dont know if it matters but i also did the three other quests that are available while your in there: find the ten pages, find out whats happening in the cellar and steal the forbidden book.
After all this i got my gear back and it wasnt flagged as stolen, every other way i did it (apart from just killing him) resulted in all my gear being flagged as stolen.
(edit: also, i just finished the game and i was still getting messages telling me what duty i was supposed to be doing in the church lol)
I really appriciate the detail they put into the whole quest and it was interesting to explore inside the cloister, its a shame that it ended up being to buggy and killing the fun at some point. And I can't understand how such an important part of the main questline can end up being broken to this level.
If you return to the location of this quest, inside the building, after being gone for a while one of the punishers should notice you, kick you out permenantly, and fail the quest which will remove it from your active quests.
Same boat here, I already took the medical book while doing the Necronomicon quest and took a page because I saw it sitting there on a table while snooping around. When starting this quest they get removed from your inventory, which I am assuming makes those quests unfinishable. The only time quest items should be removed from your inventory is when you finish the quests they are tied to and oddly enough they normally will not be removed then which over time clutters your inventory with quest items that have already served thier function. I mean really.....must I carry the masonry stone that killed the monastery construction worker til the end of time as an example?
sneak out of the cloister and look in the chest at the gate house (where you got the monk robe).
all your stuff is still there including the quest items.
Ah thanks...good advice...also you can find a lockpick in the main chapel where everyone prays....it is on the middle altar at the front of the room on the backside of the table behind the artsy religious painted panels. Saves you from having to raid their food stores or create a bevy of potions just so you can trade for lockpicks from Brother Crellius.
