How does stealth takedowns work? (always crime)

Can someone shed some light about how silent stealth takedowns work (non-lethal)? Because even if i silently take down in stealth someone, who is alone, nobody sees me, everything is ok, after few minutes the crime icon on top of the screen popup (i guess when the person wakes up) and i am wanted and i have to pay to to guards or go to jail.
Is it a bug? Is this supposed to happen? I really really want to be sneaky, use stealth, lockpicking, takedowns etc, but this is a big problem.
I made 100% sure that nobody sees or hear me, the takedown is successful, but after short period of time i am always wanted.

I know its not what you want to hear, but I would strongly advise against using takedowns for normal thieving activity. I don't think it ever plays out well for you with them in the end.

Now with enemies, sure, have fun, but on civilians you don't want to terrify, you're just better off not trying it.

thanks for the answer. I tried to do it few times mainly outside the city, because it was quick way to loot everything from the person and not get caught while pickpocketing. And i also heard that its a great way to level up the stealth skills. But since its not working properly i guess i think i will need to stop doing it completely. Anyone else having experience with this?

Someone is seeing you. Don't try to knock someone out while they're sleeping, they see you.

I've knocked out the entire guard regiment in Rattay to sell their gear for profit and if they're truly alone and no one is in sight I do not get caught.

I don't even bother with stealth in this game to be honest. I find the entire system atrocious.

Murdering an entire bandit camp in the dead of night without a single one of them seeing me coming or getting their sword out of their sheath is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rush.

well i made sure there is nobody else around us, we were far away from any city or buildings, nobody was there, i was sneaking, the guy didnt notice me (and he wasnt sleeping), i succesfully taken him down and looted him, no bounty or anything. but after few minutes, the bounty suddenly pops up without no reason and i am wanted.
It happened to me almost everytime i tried to take down someone. I still think that this is not supposed to happen
