Honestly you should be able to handle Very Easy locks on the doors of houses in back alleys at Rattay at night.

well you can level it up to 4 in Skalitz before you hand over the stuff your father asks. It is pretty easy, go to Kunesh's house try to open his chest, get free 4 lockpicks from Fritz. Then go to tavern upper floor 2 easy chests here, 2 or 3 more inside the forbidden area of tavern. Kunesh's chest and your house chest that makes 6-7 which is like leveling lockpick to 2 or 3. You can basicly just roam around the village opening people's doors and chests.

For example(not gonna spoil it for you) there are 2 hard chests of some stall merchants. And give pretty valuable sell loot if you can pick those locks. After that you can easly lvl it above 4 around the Talmberg area when you need armor to escape the castle. 3-4 levels of lockpick is pretty solid with durable lockpicks perk. Just dont forget to get it as soon as you hit lvl 3 or you gonna lose 3 lockpicks like me for no reason

Unlock every door in town. Wait a day. Do it again.

There are books as well as the Miller who can teach you for a price.

Just go around and open doors and chests. Around the Millers area, the bath and on the way to the executioners house, you will find houses who will have locks on them during the night. Also, if you travel during the night, it will help you get used to the darkness levels.

Practice. I got a bit drunk Skalitz, so had some time to spend while alcoholism wore off. Fritz gave me 4 lock picks which I have been using. The NPCs tend to lockup each time they leave their home, and the chests are full of great loot including repair kits. I am around level 17 in lock picking and 15 in stealth, while I have still to complete the sword.

I also knocked out everyone that I could, which gave me enough armour, clothing, and weapons to repair (around 35k worth) that my maintenance skill is maxed out at 20.

Perhaps I will live my life out in Skalitz after all :steamfacepalm:

level lockpick by opening everything you can until you have the durable lockpick perk and the luck of the drunk perk. combine these two perks with a "padfoot" potion which increases lockpick by 5 and you can easily lockpick open very hard chests at a really low skill level. this nets you amazing loot if you steal from the vendors in rattay and gets you a lot of lockpick experience. there are multiple herbalists in the woods around towns and some of them store the goods they sell in easy chests. open them up, take the potions and the ingredients, and boom you got yourself some padfoot potions.

i think i was opening very hard locks at lockpick level 6 or 7?

With the +5 from thepotion you can open them at level 5. As at level 10 is when you can start to open very hard locks normally.

There are at least two variants of VH locks. One harder than the other. Armorers and Swordsmiths tend to have the harder version.

I have already read the book and paid for all the training i can get at my level but still just lvl 5

Likely have to go on a treasure hunt to find it or in a town you have not visited. Think I might know who sells it. Suggestion is to go to the other towns and pick locks there. Any lock you can pick will raise the skill.

door can be locked by npcs aswell. Just pick the lock and go wake them up. When they close the door it is locked again
