Any reason to spare enemies?
Just been killing them, but is here any benefits to letting them run? Maybe a reputation increase?

they show up to face you for a rematch,

(they will make a claim that they wanted revange over what you did to them),
and after a wail they will show up with a higher ranked ally with better equipment to face you on the road.

Huh? You said the NPCs not part of the main line will repsawn. Gave you an example of one that doesn't. So try what exactly? Didn't say you lied. Saying you are incorrect in your assumption.

That would be a bug then, i also doubt that you spent 10 days in prison after you killed the guard, rendering your assumption useless. as i stated that i had tested this by killing people and being thrown into prison, as you surley did not read as you started to go on about filling your horse with goods.

i can spare, but these who run away never outrun me on horseback

I hate when some enemies are afraid of me after I kill their mate or leader, at which point whole encounter turns into marathon run. They start running, I sprint to them and whack them once, they continue running, I catch up to them, I need to regenerate my stamina, I catch up again to them and whack them once and rinse and repeat for 2 minutes. Once I run so far away from the original spot that I could not find bodies I left along the marathon path.

NPCs fleeing should be slower and once you caught up to them and attacked them should not attempt to run again.

Fine, the guard is dead and has stayed that way for almost a game week. Will save and get sent to jail for 10 days. A murder spree should secure that amount of time. Will check to see if your theory is correct that going to jail resets the world. That is actualy what you are now saying, right? When I read that post the first time, the jail part didn't seem to be the key point you were making. As a cause and effect thing.

Thank you, then i will get this confirmed. i would also like to add that npc's did not respawn nor for me or my wife by waiting a week ingame. It seems like they only respawn when you wait consecutive days whitout stop. But then again, could also be a bug.

They always die before trying to surrender. Probably due to the Mace blows landing on their heads in quick succession.

At least villagers respawn occasionally. I killed whole ledetchko and there I always more peasants to harass

Fast traveled back to Rattay to make sure the guard in question was still dead before the killing begins. Low and behold guess who is back. So you don't need to go to jail to reset NPCs. Might be on a timer or something. Now to kill him again so I can continue mugging the shop keeper for another week~

Some main story line scripts can be different, but not wildly.
Also, if you dont kill anyone during main quest line (except Runt ), you get Merciful achievement.

Sharp weapons cause bleeding, so if you want enemy to surrender more often, use clubs.

What about bandits and such? By 'anyone' do you mean named characters and not generic?
