PSA: Fix/WORKAROUND for "Ginger in a Pickle"

Seems like Warhorse Studios released a patch reverting the 1.2.5 hotfix, going back to 1.2.2

Interesting! I loaded back to my previous save before I turned in the quest and it WORKS! Just like the fix.

So I can confirm that Warhorse reverted back to 1.2.2

I managed to track down the exact file that is the source of everyone's problems with starting Ginger in a Pickle and made a very quick mod to replace it with the one from 1.2!

I'm going to be quite honest, I spent a long while looking at the new changes they made and I don't understand quite what they did wrong to make it so bugged up. Expect someone with a better understanding of KC and their XML format to properly fix this bug, but until then this is a mod that replaces just the one file with it's 1.2 version.

Drop that file in your Data folder and that's it. Once Warhorse or someone else releases a better patch, it's probably best to delete it.

This obviously won't fix the quest if it was bugged for you in 1.2, and it probably won't start the quest if you've already completed The Hunt Begins. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to load an old save and complete the last stages of The Hunt Begins again.

EDIT: I should add that you use this at your own risk. It's certainly best to wait for Warhorse to fix it themselves, or at the very least back up your saves before using this.

The .pak files are unencrypted archives. You're free to open it and look at the single .xml file yourself.

Steps in order

• Go download the file provided by here: google [drive.google.com] or reddit (SAME LINK)
  
• Navigate to your Kingdom Come Deliverance install directory.
  For Example:
  C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance\Data
  
• Extract drag and drop the zzz_GingerPickleFix.pak into the directory

There! You should be done.

I read not long ago, maybe a couple days ago on the forums that they fixed the online requirement to play the game. Not sure if it is confirmed fixed though.

None of that may have any relation to solving the issue. Did you check the tire pressure on your car too?

Whatever you do do not let steam UPDATE your game, go in offline mode and play Kingdom Come, it has no DRM so I suspect you can just play in offline mode.

Ehh, my game is updated. Started and completed that quest today with no issue, including the optionals. Have the save anytime and bow recticle mods installed.

Maybe instead of fear mongering, you can do a bug report. Perhaps it's a known issue with a fix you have't looked for yet.

I know the MODS probably would not break the quest, but I had mods that directly edited some .pak files from the Data folder in the game.

Better try to at least some trouble shooting than to be so sure of yourself that the mods are not the problem.

I am glad that you are experiencing NO Problems with the patch. Good for you.

It's just a PSA for people who have not updated, I am advising against updating as this hotfix brings more problems than it fixes so far.

Thanks for the warning anyway. I for one will try to start the game in Offline mode first. If it doesn't work then I guess updating it is then.

Do the work around, Then replace 3 files, (Developer.pak,GameData.pak,Scripts.pak) in the data folder.

IT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WORKS. THE GINGER QUEST WORKS.

As soon as I loaded up a save to report to Radzig or Bernard, he starts to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MOVE NOW.

This is the fix unless you can wait for a patch in the next couple of days.
