Old mods with new version

Is there a way to use a mod that hasnt been updated for the latest version. Trying to use the bow reticle mod

Most old KCD mods use modified versions of old original game files, that overwrite the existing ones. So you would need to copy over changes made to the old file versions to the new ones. Otherwise you would lose new skills like for the dog.

But for the reticle mod this is very simple: It is just one line in an user.cfg text file under Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance

wh_pl_showfirecursor=1

P.S.: Looks like the file has changed from user.cfg to system.cfg

It's user.cfg. I'm doing it with my game. However I haven't dled the update just released either.
