Best performance settings?
What are the settings for highest quality but with some cutting corners options, mostly every game has those "trash options that ruin framerates for no reason"

I have a GTX 1070, 32gb of ram i7-7700k 4.20ghz cpu

Performance even on low settings with high enemy numbers is abysmal, so i'll just assume settings for walking around and some small fights.

use medium to low graphical settings for everything. then put your render distance up to help with the popin, and some things such as physics are to be put on low because they have no impact on the game visually however a heavy impact on performance.

Advanced Graphics Settings
Object quality: Medium
Game effects: Low
Lighting: Medium
Particles: Low
Physics: Medium
This is one of the most demanding settings. We recommend setting it to Medium.

Postprocess quality: Medium
Shader quality: Low
Shadows: Medium (Set to High if you have a GPU with 4GB of VRAM or above)
We recommend setting it to medium since this setting requires a lot of GPU processing power. If you have enough VRAM then you can set this to high.

Textures: Medium (Set to High if you have a GPU with 4GB of VRAM or above)
We also recommend that you set this setting on Medium as it is very taxing for the GPU. If you have enough VRAM then you can set this to high.

Water details: Low
Volumetric effects detail: Low (Set to Full if you have a GPU with 4GB of VRAM or above)
Vegetation detail: Low (Set to Full if you have a GPU with 4GB of VRAM or above)
Object distance: 50%
LOD distance: 30%
Vegetation draw distance: 30%
Motion Blur: Object

see where this gets you and turn up settings based off of what you likce. for example you may want textures at high and so on, however the real demanding settings are explicitly labled and the difference between low and ultra is bairly noticable with a very high difference in performance. you should be aiming for around 30-40 fps in cities and 40-60 in open terrain with few people

expect slightly lower with nvidia as for whatever reason this game does not like nvidea cards newer than the 900 series however runs spectacularly with amd. Literally had my laptop with a gtx 970m getting more fps than a 1080ti with similar settings. this may or may not be fixed by now but it was an observation...i it would be greate to hear your feedback so i can verify that this has either been fixed or is still a problem

There certainly are such trash options in KCD.

- Water quality - makes absolutely no noticeable difference between Low and Ultra but eats FPS a lot. Trashiest option ever.

- Particles - similarly unnoticeable.

- Lighting - only affects secondary shadows at night, basically. FPS eater.

- Shaders - while it adds a bit of volume to thatched roofs and roads (negligible stuff), it mostly adds more layers to shadows. No point in having it higher than Medium - difference is barely noticeable on screenshots. Major FPS eater.

- Shadows - no point in having above High. Major FPS eater.

- All kinds of aftereffects are useless trashy trash, IMO, some of them eat FPS

- Physics - almost useless, but runs in a separate CPU thread, may be important for 4-cores and the like

- Object quality, Texture quality - these hog CPU.

Texture streaming and texture residency tweaks are a must.

Thanks! I put everything to low, but set anything texture related to ultra high, 110fps and looks fine.

good to hear that they fixed the nvidia performance on the newer cards. and glad this helped you achieve good fps
