But yeah, the dog is apart of the DLC
You could apply that to pretty much any game and DLC in the history of computer gaming. Spending money on pixels that do anything can be seen as money for "nothing". It could also be applied to many, many other hobbies and pastimes. But if you enjoy what you're doing then it's value for money.
The Dev's need to address this more formally - all appearances to new-to-game players like me, portray the game as if you will get a decent Dog companion from the onset of the game.
Unless you dumpster dive into Google or the forums here, you don't know why it is that you have a Houndmaster skill, cut scene insinuations, etc.
Having fought several Bandit groups with dogs that bite my arm, I was looking forward to having my own dog that helps slow down at least 1 of 3 in a group fight, or help on hunts.
Heck, the Dev's could at least put a statement and button in the Houndmaster tab that says it only functions with a DLC purchase and the button takes you to the Steam Store Page (they'd actually make some money with that little edit).
As-is, it shows a less polished game that is one of many reasons this game falls just short of a AAA title.
