User has no active profiles, can't play the game anymore
I re-downloaded the game recently, started playing then closed it a while later. The next day I get this error saying [PlayerProfiles] CGameContext:: User 'myusername' has no active profile!

I've checked out quite a few posts online about this error and they all just say deleted the savedgames file under my C:\Users\username but there is no such file. I checked in Documents, Appdata\local and Appdata\roaming. I've also reinstalled the game, and restarted my computer multiple times.

Restart Steam.

If you have Avast, get rid of this junk.

KCD keeps profiles in C:\Users\ <you> \Saved Games\kingdomcome\

I don't use explorer search feature to find files. I've been working on computers for years so navigating file structures isn't difficult for me. I also don't use AV other than windows defender, nothing else is necessary unless you click every popup you see.

Its actually very odd that the game saves in the user's root directory, usually games will save in appdata or documents. I looked again and its not there

check windows security/controlled folder access. if on, may need to allow access to steam/game

\<User>\Saved Games\ is a semi-standard Windows folder (<Docs> \My Games\ being another one).

Since it failed to write anything there (assuming it wasn't wiped), it seems you have either system permissions issue, or similar access problem - e.g. this can often happen if you have non-standard-English characters or certain character combinations in your Windows username (like "load").

Do you run Steam as admin?

Try to set loose permissions on this folder manually; move it to a different location (via its "Location" properties tab) with a simplest path. If it does exist at all, that is, this part was ambiguous.

check the two log files in the steam game folder. might be an error msg or something.

Logs just give the same error. I downloaded the game on my laptop and it runs fine. I searched for the save game location to copy it over but couldn't find it under appdata (all subfolders), my documents (all subfolders) nor under my username\save game

looks like something still wrong with account permissions. try creating a new windows local account. login with that new account. runs steam with admin permission then run game.
