This game is way too hard, frustrating and demoralizing
I am now 75 hours in, according to Steam, and I'm freaking LEVEL 6! I think it's a beautifully realized world and setting, but I can't say I have had any actual FUN at any point along the way. The save system is way too unforgiving and I just lost a grand sum of an hour and a half of progress, hunting and gathering herbs -- which is all I can accomplish because I get jumped by 5 bandits and I can do nothing but die. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is pissing me off! The lock-picking makes no sense and seems especially broken when using analog sticks. I have yet to successfully pick one lock. These subsystems are not good.

I cannot for the life of me grasp this convoluted combat system, and by the time I think I have an opening I get hit three times. The in-game tutorial events suck and don't properly prepare the player. Weapon swings feel sluggish but also somehow weightless; it's really hard to tell when I'm actually making a hit.

All the red flags that made me hate Red Dead Redemption 2 are firing here: forced simulation movement in combat and traversal; constant loss of progress due to non-existent checkpoints where it matters; obtuse ranged weapon aiming (hunting feels like a trial and error chore); and on top of all this your food and weapons deteriorate. Throw the player a freaking bone.

What the F--- am I missing here? I've wasted so much time and have gotten nowhere. I feel like there is zero real progress in my character and so then why should I still play this?

the game is hard at first but if you do enough training and all that with Bernard it eventually gets easier the system is designed to be much more realistic swordplay then just hack and slash. its designed to be hard at first but get easier as you go. Its not Meant to be Like Skyrim. I am already max level and can do most fights easy after practicing to learn the system.

You are missing that this game might not be the right game for you. There are plenty of players who actually enjoy the same things you hate. The fact that hunting is actually a skill not only Henry needs to learn, but the player aswell is appealing for alot of players. Actually all combat related skills are like that.

Also the save system is great in my opinion. It forces you to be more cautious, and live with consequences of whatever decisions you make in the game. Also, there are some common mods for this saving (so you can quicksave whenever you desire).

75 hours of no fun sounds like you should drop the game and go play something else. I don't think the game needs any changes as it is good from my perspective (and most likely alot of others)

Agreed

this game is not made for everyone, it is a niche product. :)

however, the combat system like the rest of the game is designed to deliver a progression through training experience, your character starts out as someone with little experience, you need to train hard to become a good fighter just like you would have to in real live too.

what i did at my very first playthrouhg was to train with bernard for 1 or 2 real time hours straight, that helped me personally a lot in trying to learn the combat system and it helped a lot in leveling up the combat related skills.

as far as saving the game goes as soon as you have lots of savior schnapps and the body of your character became used to the alcohol saving is not that much of a problem anymore.

I have played the game for about 80 hours. I am level 20 in most skills, apart from archery and alchemy. I have finished the game and all DLCs. I have no idea how it’s possible to play the game for 75 hours and be at level 6. Do you mean 7.5 hours? This game is incredible, but it’s not for everyone.

Take the time to train the dog so it fights, this helps alot.

Using a bow from horseback is what i am doing at low lvl, which takes some practice.

Its a game where the player has to take the time to level the character up alot, and gear him up alot. Its really great this way i think.

Early part of the game is all about flower picking and making potions and exploring and saving coin for a good horse and gearing up.

Stay on horse and run away early game, or use a bow early game.

I am an experienced player and trying to do nothing but save coin and lvl up safely and i am still getting caught and murdered now and then. Its called high difficulty level.

There i am riding at top speed on a great horse it took for ever to save up for and a log is blocking the road and trying to get around it, then bandits attack.. Its actually really great. :)

You may not believe this but as you feel like that you're hooked and before you know you gotta try again and before you know you succeed where you couldn't and you got past the hard bit with a great jump of joy and satisfaction then you start to realize the awesomeness the fun the expansive exploring how enjoyable this game becomes. XD

Well, props for sticking with the game even tho you hate it I guess.

The only valid complaint you have it fighting multiple opponents. It CAN be done but it's just bad. I love the game to bits but this one thing was driving me crazy. The only way to make it easier is to become so OP you'll two-shot most opponents but then the combat becomes too boring.

Saving system is phenomenal, F5/F9 save scumming is the worst scourge of modern RPGs. Btw you can brew 3 save potions in about a minute.
