Shortswords Vs Longswords?
I need you guys opinion on this topic.

Im trying my hand on an archer type build and am confused which is better. Firstly, my strength is much higher than my agility which is 9 vs 7 and the swords I have justifies me going down the longsword route. Duelist is such a sweet pick imo, for early-mid game.

However, need some of your opinions on it.

You can use either. If you want to use a shield, only use the sabre, hunting swords or short hilted arming swords, don't use it with a long hilted arming sword.

For free fighting 1v1, I find the long hilted arming sword to be a more relatable experience - the 'shape of the fight' is quite close to that of (specifically unarmoured) sword in two hands historical use.

For the more constrained fighting of melee and 1vmany - I prefer to use shield and a weapon in one hand. In practice this is more often a mace or hammer than a sword (mostly because I modded to reduce the weapon damages, and swords are not as useful vs heavy armour) - but using a sword and shield is viable. Shields are much better at defence than the maces and axes, but are less vital paired with a sword - except that they are useful to charge down archers with.

It is possible to fight with shield and a weapon unarmoured (though not especially wise). While this is very risky with only a weapon, especially if archers are in play.

I dont know all the language for this sword fighting in this game just love playing it lol .
I agree with what Lieste says.
I tried the short sword and found it good but not as defensive as the long sword. The good old club did wonders to start with.

This is my favourite weapon in screenshot , also with the assassin long sword in my inventory with Yew bow I found in a treasure chest . There is many treasure hidden in the forest.
I found this awesome weapon on a cuman leader.

As I said I am not very good with words like melee etc :)

Shorts are best with a shield, also their combos can be used with or without Shields

For Longs if you use a shield you lose the ability to use all combos. So that's mainly it as I found it

Long sword all the way
Great vs multiple get the perk for poison for damage blade and just watch em fall over.. and with that extra reach stabbing them to apply the poison is great.

You can upgrade your agility by doing bow competition or/and hunting. Also, you can upgrade your strength by picking herbs. My herbalism was at 20 by the time I left Skalitz in the prologue. If you want to follow the more realistic path, i.e. finding lvl 20 in herbalism able to upgrade strength being ridiculous, then you have to learn how to do alchemy and make the saving potions. Use the saving potion before going into each fight just in case because even trying to run away when the going is too tough may not help as some of the cumans can outrun you. And you cannot heal when the combat sign is on.
I think I have pretty much decided to go on with the longsword route. Thanks guys.

I already have 10 strength but only 7 agility.

Also, I prefer to have more combos readily available and the reach is also easier (imo) to control spacing.

With both bow mastery and the longsword I should be able to cc relatively ok.

I don't know if you have the dlc that comes with lots of treasure maps. One of the treasure map gives the most powerful longsword. Longsword defintely offers the coolest fighting sequence if you can get it right. Oh, how I wish I can string it together.

Treasure hunter dlc? Nah. But I probably will use the interactive map instead lol.

I’d recommend just using axes or maces. Alongside a shield, I found they outperform swords quite consistently. Makes especially make short work of armored targets, and unarmored targets usually go down fast regardless of your weapon. No reason to gimp yourself messing about with swords when better potions are available.
