How do you unlock new training with Bernard?
30 hours in and he only offers the basic "combo" training. How do I get him to teach me master strikes?

Complete the Ginger in a Pickle quest, then DO NOT go to Uzhitz. Return to Rattay and train with Bernard.

Actually you can go back to him straight after the quest. Well I went back to him after the patrol and he trained me in everything. It used to be after Ginger in a Pickle, but they changed it.

Still having this issue if anyone knows a fix. I want to learn master strike.

Unless something has changed recently in the game, you can do it before you go on the hunt. That is, if you like me don't go on patrol with with Nightinggale immediately, and rather go wandering the countryside for treasure. The trick to learning masterstrikes is to both be able to pull off combos in the fight with Bernard, 1 or 2 will usually do, and that you can defend yourself. Don't let him hit you! You should train normally until you get at least the first defensive perk before you ask about master strikes. Clinch master helps too:)

It's not that I can't physically do it, it's that he isn't offering it as a lesson. All I have is "combo training" and not the master strike one.

You might need to raise warfare/defence/weapon skill to a minimum level. You will also need to 'do well enough' in sparring with Bernard before he will teach you even when you get the training offered.

As an aside, you can fit both devices and masterstrikes training with Bernard in the morning/early afternoon after seeing the Bailiff, collecting your 'gear' and before seeing Nightingale - and still be ready for Hans Capon on the next dawn - as early as it is possible to do so, if you trained your combat skills during the prologue to a minimal standard of competence and got brought to standard by Bernard and Hans during 'train hard, fight easy'.

Warfare, defense, and Sword are all at about 12, I kick Bernard's ass every time we spar, and I did that Nightingale mission you're mentioning like 20 hours ago.

Are you sure you didn't already do it then. Combos he will show repeatedly, but he only gives masterstrike/parry-riposte one time.

Just go to him after reporting to the baliff in Ratay.
