Does this game favor save scumming?
The thing that pushed me away from traditional PC RPGs... lose a battle or make a dumb choice, reload previous save...

Definitely not. You can't manually save your game without using a consumable.

However, just so you don't completely ruin your game, the game autosaves at certain points.

I have had to restart a few times (earlier) but it's well worth it.

There's the free weekend for this game. I suggest you try it yourself.

Truth be told, there are whiners who still complain about game not being able to manually "saved" and several others prefering to install mods to enable it, so yeah, if you are anti save-scumming type like me, then I think you will like the default system.

making mistakes seems to be rather terminal so save reverting happens whether you want it or not

Why would it matter to you? In games like Skyrim you could save scum or not, it's your choice, it's not like you're forced to do it.

You can mod it / manually mess with the saves if you REALLY want to scum it, but no it does not allow unlimited saving by default- you need to buy or create (through alchemy) potions which allow you to save the game a single time.

Unfortunately the way human psychology works, even if you do not "want" to do it, most people will do it if the option exists. It is just how we are wired, always trying to "optimize".

Kingdom Come is not even that strict, it gets quite easy to brew Saviour Schnapps and then you can save often anyway.

Skyrim is a very bad example of that because it automatically loads the last save upon death, no choice presented. It was really annoying when I tried to do hardcore runs (until the first death of character basically).

Well, after the latest patch, you can choose "quit and save". Each time you choose "quit and save", it will overwrite the previous one. The only bad thing about this is that, you have to wait for the game to upload the saved info to Steam Clouds. Depending on your ISP, this can be 5 min or more, or less. Then you start the game again, click "Continue".

i read that your "quit and save" savegame gets deleted after you clicked on continue and it got loaded, i dont know if that is true though.

You can also completely disable the Steam cloud for the game to save time. Or just download the proper save mod from nexusmods to save even more time.

It does seem to, I am on xbox game pass so there is no save sync that I am aware of (it does ask for firewall permissions though..). But you can't load that point again.. if you die, you have to load an 'actual' save you made, or an autosave. You can't load from the 'save and quit' load point. So I've taken to sleep and saving whenever I want to 'save and quit', so it will at least let me reload that point if I die over and over trying to deal with the combat mechanics.

It's also pretty hard to do mods with windowsapps, I've found a way to access the folder at least but still not sure if mods will work or not. Have to test it out some time. It is nice to test this xbox game pass for PC for free - I know first hand now why *not* to buy Microsoft store games/apps. There are SO many reasons.

It doesn't get deleted, you just can't load it from in game. You can still load it if you die or from the main menu.

I think the "Quit and save" can only be reloaded using the Continue button when the game is restarted.
