It is as bugged as any open-world game so it's probably underrated. Also mind all the SJW drama around this game
The game got to 75% because it is full of bugs, the grafics are a little aged and the missiondesign is sometimes annoying. The game is still great for genre-fans and for people who are into medieval games this one is a true gem. But it doesn't take much to see the flaws of that game.
I myself paused for ~one year after a major bug made it impossible to finish a mission and I had to replay a couple of hours. The same thing happened to me again with another quest a while ago. And now I'm stuck in the worst mission I've played in my whole life (f* the monastry).
I still think the game is great overall. I'm glad I funded it back when it was at kickstarter, but I do see it for what it is: A great game with major flaws.
ermmmmmm....... WHAT ??!!!!
I suggest you go away from using metacritic scores and the like to make up your opinion on games. Check out youtube videos with gameplay and judge for yourself.
As for does it deserve a 7,5 out of 10? Sure... i think its definitely accurate. Its not for everyone and depending on you value things the game is the best thing since the invention of the sliced bread machine or utter rubbish. If you expect to find a game in which you play the hero, slaughtering the enemy left and right... then this game is gonna be really disappointing to you.
The Developer made combat... realistic isn't exactly the right word, but more realistic than games usually are. Combat is slow, deliberate.. based on defense more so than offense... and if you get surrounded you will likely pay rather quickly for your mistake, just like you should expect in reality.
Weapons also do not clip through objects, so if you think to fight in a forest (and there are a lot of forests) trees can stop you from swinging a weapon in certain directions and all that sort of stuff.
Its a very enjoyable game, once you accept that they tried to make the combat more realistic than you'd usually find in these games.
And then of course there is the ending, which can be described as... lackluster. You basically get Act 1 and 2 of a 3 Act story... with a toned down ending, as this is an Indi game and the developer ran out of money to implement Act 3. Now, that doesn't mean the game isn't fun or that the story doesn't have a conclusion... it just means it basically ends with the "bad guy" getting away. You can call that sequel bait... others will say that its unsatisfying, because you are not ending up murdering the grey eminence behind the plot against your people. I'd do a disservice to you, if i claimed it wasn't noticeable... but... i had a blast playing through the game.. and the ending basically sequel baiting didn't bother me to much. And truth to be told.. after 150 hours the game started to overstay its welcome just a tinee tiny bit.
Long story short.. ending was alright, game was super fun... combat was fun if you are into using your head a bit and don't think you are going to murder 10 people easily (even in full plate that can go mighty wrong, once enemies get behind you and you get pummeled from all sides).
The downsides were easily forgiven, in my book.
Compared to a vanilla Bethesda game, this game is practically bug free. I had once instance where i had to quit to the menu... and no real gamebreaking bugs. There seems to be some memory issues going on in the background, but that shouldn't be an issue for most people, unless you are in the habit of doing 8+ hour sessions, then you might notice the game getting a bit memory hungry. But maybe then its time for a break anyway ;)
Anyway in the 150 hours i got out of this game i really didn't encounter any gamebreaking bugs. Yes, there were some graphic pop in issues and texture didn't load as quickly at times, but if that doesn't bother you, it shouldn't be any issue.
Ahahahaha...
That's not exactly what happened, as the reason for the whole act thing was devs planning multiple releases. They never promised a full story.
Nevertheless, it is bad if one hates cliffhangers
In all the time I've played I only came across one major bug (Bird traps), which broke a quest but not the game. There were a couple of minor things, getting stuck in bushes for example but that's all.
Draw distance does cause some pop in issues.
I haven't bought any DLC as most of it seems poorly rated but the game itself would be worth it now that it is down in price.
The combat is a struggle early on but get some training, stick with it and it will pay off.
Runs great and what bugs they are talking about I have no idea.
I haven't discovered any game breaking bugs yet and have played nearly 300 hours.
Still only halfway through the main quests as there is so much to explore discover learn.
My impression with this masterpiece is it is realistic.
We can choose to walk away from the main quests and go play the game until we raise our skills and stats.
Our actions and decisions mold our Henry, and that sets the behaviour of villagers how they accept him and behave with him.
Its all based on those choices
How many bandits attack us. How severe they are.
Its challenging but that's the fun part.
Learn and improve. And there is a lot of learning.
Alchemy to brew our potions Reading is important, sword fighting short or long, learning and training with Bernard the techniques. The Bow and hunting with dog , if you get the mutt you can train him to seek out treasures and just explore.
Its huge.
So if you want to be a killer and robber of everyone in your town then expect consequences.
Quests actually differ depending on our playing choices even the perks we choose effects the game play. You can be a passive Henry or violent Henry. A ladies man and drunk or thief and pick pocket or a Knight of good standing.
There are many tips when loading this game. Many just miss them.
They will tell you the tricks.

That is a ridicilous statement. You might as well suggest that going to the cinema to watch a movie nobody promised a full story, when they throw you out after the 2nd Act is resolved.
Its not a cliffhanger. It ends after Act 2 in a three Act story.
The game heavily hints at the involvement of the Monastery but that is never explored. Its not a sequel bait either.. It carried through the first Act and the 2nd Act. The story should, for some halfway competent story telling, continue after brought your new sugadaddy back.
Nothing is resolved...in this game. The story has a beginning, a middle and no end. Lots of threads that are brought up right at the start go nowhere. You cannot find out a bunch of strands, because you never get the chance to...
The only reason why i said the ending isn't that bad, is because the game resolves Act 1... then resolves Act2.. at which point the game ends. The over arching story is not resolved. You don't accomplish your mission. You resolve the events introduced in Act 2... just like you resolve the Act 1 events... but not the overarching story. You never get your sword back. That is not a cliffhanger, that is an incomplete story. Just like the presence of certain enemies in certain institutions get hinted at their existence... which is not foreshadowing for what is to come, its just incomplete story telling.
There is a genuine and justified reason why people are upset about the ending in this game. It is unfinished. If this was a TV series, then the game ends before the season finale. It builds up to the season finale and then its over, without ever giving you the season finale.
Or if you take an James Bond movie.. he escapes the first deadly trap, then gets to the clash with the Henchman... and that is when it stops. He never even gets to meet the big bad. He is there, constantly talked about, hinted at. You get told there is a grey eminence about.. you meet their henchman... you don't even defeat that henchman... the only reason why i said its not so bad, is because it doesn't end in a Cliffhanger. The story where it is, is unsatisfying, but it doesn't end in a Cliffhanger. The rest of the story could play out entirely without Henry's involvement... his revenge forever unfulfilled.. and thats just life. He saved the Damsel in Distress and whatnot...
But the way the game is structured and the story is told... the entire 3rd Act is missing. It ties the 2nd act up in a fashion that you can just accept that a peasant like Henry never gets to play at court and whatever else happened is above his pay grade, so to speak. Its unsatisfying but you can accept that this is how far his story can go.
But from a story telling point of view.. we are missing the 3rd Act of a 3 act story. Its not a big deal and because it doesn't end in a Cliffhanger.. its not an issue... just unsatisfying. It sort of fizzles out.
And if you want to suggest that this is deliberate on behalf of the Developer, then that is much, much, much worse than assuming they had no choice. If this was deliberate then they suck at storytelling (and i didn't think they did, based on the story told).
Or the most recent IT (I wish I could UNWATCH its continuation...)
What's ridiculous about it? On kickstarter stage they literally planned to release just act 1, and then other parts separately from each other. I won't judge here if that was a good or bad decision, but it certainly is not new among any type of media, and not a surprise for anyone who payed attention to this game's development
Yeah it's probably not a cliffhanger technically, but whatever you call it... true, the game has its own conclusion, which I'm fine with, and there's a future sequel promise
You are the person creating a 'cliffhanger' and an 'unfinished' ending.
Henry wants to stab people with it still, but then so does the Sheriff of Rottingham want to carve out Robin's heart with a spoon... and he is no more nor less ridiculous for it.
I think the story is more adult and less silly for not pandering to Henry's immature revenge fantasy.
The new task - to help heal the divide acting with and for higher nobility is what you should be focussing on, and is a new task for a new day.
It may be that the old motive crosses and interferes with the new one, but it shouldn't still be what anyone else is permitting Henry to focus on. For now.
lot of ppl have no idea about RPG.. they never ever play any real RPG, they just play Skyrim
u know.. dumbest clickfest ever..
this game is RPG, and isnt dumbed down.. even have awesome combat system.. but.. its not only about leftclick
and lot of ppl think they can run all games smoothly, when they rig is able manage Skyrim, or Witcher 3.. they are surprised, when they cant run all games on ultra.. :-D
when u look around, ppl whine

and then SJW bombing, when in game, what is placed in real Bohemia 1403 isnt anyone from Africa or so..
dude.. if u see what they try.. they try convince me.. in Boheamia in that time was (in their dreams) milions ppl from Africa, they hide in woods..

and some ppl are just mad, because (u know them too, im sure) they wish more.. u know, they are so excited and its stronger than they.. and they just go mad, when it end.. its just hysteria
The game is nice if you have patience to occasional lags when you play on moderate-to-weak machine like mine one and ultra graphic settings for long sessions.
I haven't met too many gamebreaking bugs, but occassionaly you can find a few minor-to-medium ones.
It has nevetherless rather fine story, a lot of side quests, puts more pressure on player in timed quests and is rather hard to play (especially if you are poor at fighting and doing sneaky job like me). I have played troughpout all questlines (main one, band of bastards, prybyslawitz reconstruction, johanka's one, tournament quests etc.) save for crime quests and theresa's questline for Woman's Lot (simply because I dislike doing sneaky playing and have moral objections as RL person to commit crimes) and I can tell you they are very nice in terms of story and choices. Currently I keep playing "free mode" after finishing campaign and other quests, wandering around cities, fighting bandits occasionaly and raiding their camps, attending tournament in Ratthay and just enjoying hunting and free time. I have put 373 hours in my current single playthrough alone and see no issue with playing it still.
So yes, the game is heavily underrated in comparison to content, especially considering the studio was indie one when they published the game (now they are in cooperation with Nordic).
+1
