You can overcome overheating with the right equipment (look into scale/leather armor), although, you can also not deal with it and just take the thirst penalty.

Which operating system are you running?

win-7-max.

i wear almost full leather eq. that why i questioned , if there is anything better than leather.
i went down from 40 points of thirst down to zero within short amount of time.

Unfortunately the Steam Overlay is pretty buggy on Windows 7 currently. You might be able to force compatibility though. You can set "inProcessGpu" and "forceInProcessGPU" to true in your launch_options.json. Scale is better than leather. There's also a few late/rare game items that add more protection.

For the desert islands I find 50% heat resistance is good enough for all but the lava. The head slot matters a lot towards heat resistance and so it is worth wearing a scale helmet if you do not have good insulation enchantment on your gear. With that said if you have a good retort and plenty of fire starting material on hand it is not hard to stay hydrated with collecting seawater and desalinating it on the fly.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is relevant to my interests.
Is this information old? Scale armor and leather armor both have 40% heat insulation. And it isn't enough to stop the debuff - even with a cloak added.
Is the only way to avoid the debuff on arid islands to roll heat insulation enchantments?

Your best best to to keep enchanting armour, makeing armour. Just grab more insulation. ANY armour of insulation(enchantmnet) will give big boosts to heat. Do not worry about your armour value, juts grab a few +heat resistance. Travel to another island if you need to and come back when you ahve more water or more heat resist
As long as you have water the heat buff can be countered easily. However...
Standing on STONE floor will reduce heat too.

Alright so relying on enchantments it is, I guess. Seems kind of silly to have to rely on heavy-RNG, rare items to manage temperature.
Thanks for your response here too. :)

you will need a few different items to be carried along with you. Some are better for heat or cold, so you'll need to switch to the proper clothing items until later game after you have found a few insulation items. You do not have to go the enchanted route, its just a little easier i think. Some crafted bark armour with insulation enchantments from rerolling the crafts repeaedly can fill the roll too. Be sure to compare armour type, the actual heat/cold vvalues!

It's easier to survive the desert island if you can find an oasis and dig water channels next to it. Some of the plants also contain water and if you make containers out of the coconuts that also helps a lot.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I think I was just mistaken about the temperature debuffs in the first place. I didn't realize that they were dependent on the time of day, for one. For two, after pushing through it I can now see that they're meant to make your first treks onto other islands more difficult than your first coastal island. You have to plan and prepare.
I was thinking that the debuff was constant. And that it was meant as a gear check, that I thought I should be passing with the best heat or cold insulation gear in the game.
