Wow.. well.. what can I say? I have it on Steam. Load it up once and a while.. for nostalgia... Is there still an active online community?

Very sad announcement. :steamsad:

licenses issue once again, reducing the fun factor for all.

everything has its end. it may disappear from the official distribution but i believe there is infinite amount of keys available due to cheap sales and bundles.

I wish more driving games would do the Burnout thing, and use original and legally distinct cars so the game can still be purchased indefinitely. Delisting real-world car DLCs is a lot less obnoxious than the entire game being rendered inaccessible to new audiences after only a few years. As long as negotiating lifetime licenses isn't on the table, I do hope more developers consider that option.

I have no idea how sim games translate the real-world physics into the game, but somehow I have the feeling that transporting real cars into a sim racing game is a lot easier than trying to make up your own. At best, you get some fairly standardized data from manufacturers, like design models, sound, aerodynamic data, suspension response data, all kinds of things needed to make a car. Simply coming up with all of that from the ground up for even a few cars and making them distinct in a reasonable way would probably be an enormous job.

I also have the feeling for a lot of sim players having the real cars is the thing (for me at least). So, I don't think it's an option in the grand scale, even though PC2 has a few made-up cars and they see drive (like Formula X or RWD LMP1).

Just guessing here, of course.

Sad to see PC2 go, though. Positive might be that something is in the works according to the announcement, so... Maybe...

I do agree that the novelty of having the real thing is very special. A large reason I even began playing the Forza Horizon games was because you could unlock and drive Halo's Warthog. It still feels awesome, and it wouldn't be the same without it. :sadkitty: So I do see what you're saying :3

I suppose their "generic" cars could exactly mimic the performance and data of the real-world cars, only remove the branding and change up the models just enough to remain safe from the law. So while the agreed license is in effect, the game costs full price, but free DLC exists to swap the phonies with the real things. Then said DLC can be removed when the licenses expire, leaving an intact game :3

If they're really dedicated and are willing to create a workaround, perhaps a patch installer could then mysteriously find its way to the PCGW to manually apply said DLC since it's no longer available on Steam--an installer totally not created and uploaded by the devs :v

Haha, this is probably a lot of trouble to go through just for the simple goal of keeping their game on sale for as long as possible. But who wants all of their efforts to vanish just because they didn't have a plan in place to avoid the otherwise inevitable? Could be worth it if they truly value the time and resources that they put into these projects, and that goes for every game that heavily relies on licensed content! :3

I just know that it hurts to discover a game after it's been pulled from sale. Piracy should never be the only way to access a game, so... This is just something for them to consider, even if it is impractical and unlikely. :pawscub1:

I know it's a long shot, but is there a slight chance that the owners of the base games will get a free update to Deluxe Editions, due to the games being delisted?

No, you'll just be forever locked out of buying the DLCs.

Buy this to get it cheap:

It is or was cheaper on GMG for what it's worth. IIRC $6.34 @USA and $5.8 on the UK flavour.

The funny thing is namco generally was ok with renewing licences but EA on the other hand YIKES
