EDIT: Upon re-reading I feel like I missed your question entirely :/ The devs have said that the game is sort of a melange of Slavic myths from various roots. For certain the creatures in the game do not hew closely to any one consistent source. OK the link works in a web browser but not in the Steam client. I give up ;_;
For some reason, it got stuck in myhead that it was pronounced something other than [θi:ə]. Don't know why that is. Thanks for clearing it up, guys.
