What's the point of energy?

It builds up during fights, and then goes away gradually. I can't spend it on anything. There are loads of upgrades I'm skipping that do positive things to it because I just don't see the point. Am I missing something?

You propably havn't gotten to the point yet, where you get implants and the drone that use energy. That's what it is for.

Its for build variety. Basically there's weapons that make energy explode higher than others. Then you get implants that make high energy increase healing, impact, attack speed, damage, etc. So there's high energy builds.

Also later in the game you get drones and they are used based on how much energy you have.

Personally, im using a slow single rigged weapon that has like no energy, so I dont usually worry about it often except the odd drone. I mostly just stack health, healing, and stamina implants.
