Annoying uncontrollable forward-dodging

I know I typed much but I really need help.

I only started noticing on my NG+ that sometimes when you dodge left/right/back your character dodges directly forward to your enemy which guarantees getting hit because dodging is only needed when your enemy is trying to land an attack, which is obvious. So in fact your character instead of avoiding attack eats it intentionally.

The reason of why this forward-rush happens is due to pressing shift any time earlier when you're locked on your target. So in fact if you just press shift even for 1s and 10s later try to dodge an attack - you will dodge forward no matter which keys you are pressing. This is SO ANNOYING! As a player who likes playing "hardcore", without the best armor and without tons of healing injectables this thing was the main reason of my deaths, especially during the bosses such as Cat, which spams range-attack which I was avoiding with shift running and then suddenly rushes at you with a super-speed which could only be avoided with dodge. So I was pressing dodge and eating his damage by dodging forward. It made me wanna quit. What a terrible mechanic, if it's really mechanic...

Anyone encounters this too? Maybe it's only my "glitch" cause I didn't notice it on my first playthrough
