Sometimes I try new stuff, like the new Space looking suit, but I don't have enough core power on my current run to properly use it, but I can see playing with that more because of the extra buff for "codename" weapons, that's a really cool addition.
I like Eagle also, for when I have to be fast.
Lynx is the go to option early game but I love Bloody proteus for its looks. Mantis is not bad. Liquidator for all those nasty poison areas. Iron Mouse was my choice in the core power 10 run.
The 3 I used the least were
Elitte hazard taker
Normal Proteus
Scarab
Plus some of the DLC ones.
I do have a spare set of Liquidator, as well. Used it to fight the Smelter in the Resolve Biolabs and I put it on occasionally to deal with gas or sludge when that turns up. Anyone remember when Liquidator DIDN'T give you immunity from chemicals or gas and just gave you greater elemental resistance? Yeah, they patched that out eventually :)
Frankly, I kind of wish the Tenshi Angel armour would also come with environmental resistance from gas and sludge. Currently, we lack a Goliath option for a sealed environment-protected suit. Liquidator is Operator and Elite Hazard is Sentinel. Saldy, Angel is only resistant to gas.
Personally, I prefer the Gorgon suit, because it provides good protection (however little it actually does) and its set bonus is really powerful. Having your stamina regenerate twice as fast basically means that you'll never have to take a time out in a fight again to recover.
I use three Mk V vital injections, an SNS disinhibitor, 3 pneumatic calibrators, an omni-audit vital boost, an ablative array, 2 aggression amplifiers, 2 red x cables and two sustaining arrays, it totals 188 of 190 used and leaves me with six unused slots.
I never run out of stamina, and once I get enough core levels to fill out the rest of my slots I will never run out of energy (before I added the XLs I had all of my slots filled, and I was simply unstoppable.)
Its pretty beefy and plays well with my very deliberate style.
How so? Seems to be working pretty well for me so far. It's slow, but that's as bad as it gets.
I will not deny that it is possible to make a viable build out based on it, just that there are better sets.
