Can you beat the 2 security guys at the begining of the second level?
Is it possible to get their weapons?

Yes. Pull one, they'll follow right back to where you overloaded the power conduit to energize Ops. At that point, they'll head back to their station. So target the right arm, and enjoy a rather nice staff for reward.

I am a bit lost as to which wepon you use. It feels like medium weapons are the best since they stun at a decent rate, but I do like the wepon that dropped off the first boss. Which is considered better? Heavy or medium weapons?

I've found that the game seems to be balanced from the Single Rig weapon type. My personal preference is for Dual Rig, but all weapon types are viable. If you use Heavy Duty, you must use the leap attack rather than the slide attack, as the slide attack with heavy Duty weapons is basically useless.

I just met a woman who needs a staff weapon. I am kind of liking my MG staff. It seems to be the item she is looking for though. Do you get anything good for giving it to her?

Yes, but much later in the game.

Yes, well worth it. She'll have an upgraded version of that staff, called "The Peacekeeper" (same move set, but more damage and proficiency scaling) when you meet her for the final time.

You'll be able to grab another MG Negotiator easily in game.

Here's a spoiler tip for meeting her the final time, make sure that you focus all hits on the right arm, and do not use a weapon that will kill her in three hits... you want to be sure to cut that arm off to get that staff

You'll get a new staff after beating the Act II boss (the Firebug) - the staff will be lying on the floor in the tunnels that unlock immediately after the Firebug is dead. You can also get another MG Negotiator after you finish the Biolabs and go back to Central Production for the third boss (Big Sister). Beating Big Sister will get you yet another staff, and getting the hardmode kill on Big Sister will get you one of the best staves, with a different moveset.
It is very hard. Fight with one and be quick.

There are no best type weapons, it depends on your play style. There is however one piece of advice I would give, in the first level there is an underground set of tunnels with toxic sludge and drones guarding it. There's a single-rig weapon in there called the Volatile Spectre, this weapon will make things a lot easier later in game as its wrecks one type of enemy. I played the game with this as my primary weapon, switching out to Staves and Twin-rig when I felt it appropriate.

Some enemies can be easier to deal with with fast weapons, just keep the proficiency and level up with the weapons you choose and you can't go far wrong. I've found myself switching to different weapons mid fight for example.
